  • Publication number: 20100015478
Abstract: A method of measuring methanol vapor concentration on a real-time basis and a methanol vapor concentration measuring apparatus used in fuel cells. The method of measuring methanol vapor concentration involves using an absorption spectrometry technique, that is, after measuring intensities I0 and I1 of light of a laser before and after passing through a space filled with methanol vapor and into which light is irradiated, the methanol vapor concentration is calculated by substituting the intensities I0 and I1 into an equation defined as I1/I0=exp (K·L·C), where K represents the absorption coefficient, L represents the length of the space through which the laser passes, and C represents the methanol vapor concentration.

  • Publication number: 20100017638
Abstract: There is provided a system and methods for segmenting datapath resources such as reorder buffers, physical registers, instruction queues and load-store queues, etc. in a microprocessor so that their size may be dynamically expanded and contracted. This is accomplished by allocating and deallocating individual resource units to each resource based on sampled estimates of the instantaneous resource needs of the program running on the microprocessor. By keeping unused datapath resources to a minimum, power and energy savings are achieved by shutting off resource units that are not needed for sustaining the performance requirements of the running program. Leakage energy and switching energy and power are reduced using the described methods.

  • Publication number: 20100014101
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the longitudinal position of a tapered displaceable element positioned between two substantially orthogonally laterally opposing displacement sensors. A change in the longitudinal position of the displaceable element causes the sensors to each measure their distance to the displaceable element which relates directly to the local thickness and thus the longitudinal position of the displaceable element. The system factors out errors in measured lateral proximity position of the displaceable element since an erroneous proximity to one sensor is equal and opposite to an erroneous proximity to the other.

  • Publication number: 20100016744
Abstract: A fetal heart rate monitoring system includes an ultrasonic transducer for transmitting a signal to a patient and for receiving a reflected heart beat monitoring signal. A monitoring system coupled to the ultrasonic transducer processes the heart beat monitoring signal and produces heart beat information representative of the monitored heart rate. A mechanical or electronic steering system coupled to the ultrasonic transducer controls the location of the signal transmitted to the patent and/or the location of the received heart beat monitoring signal. A control system coupled to the monitor and steering system controls the steering system as a function of the heart beat monitoring signal to optimize the quality of the heart beat information in the received heart beat monitoring signals.

  • Publication number: 20100016222
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel use of Msx1 protein or a nucleotide encoding the same for inducing apoptosis. The Msx1 of the present invention induces apoptosis through direct interaction with p53 via a homeodomain and such interaction leads to increased stability, and/or nuclear localization of p53 in cells. The Msx1 or homeodomain thereof can be effectively used for the treatment of tumors, in which wild-type p53 protein has lost its function by some mechanism that inactivates p53 proteins.
