Abstract: An optical digital to analog converter (oDAC) that may include (a) multiple optical paths that are parallel to each other; (b) a combiner, (c) a splitter that is configured to receive an optical signal at a splitter input and split the optical signal between multiple splitter outputs to provide multiple path input signals to the multiple optical paths. The multiple optical paths are configured to optically process, in parallel, path input signals to provide path output signals. Each optical path is configured to apply an optical process that comprises applying optical modulation, by an optical gate of the optical path and under a control of an electrical modulator, to provide an optical signal having a value selected out of multiple constellation levels. The combiner is configured to add the multiple path output signals to provide an oDAC output signal having a value selected from values of a single quadrature constellation.

Abstract: Methods are provided of selectively obtaining n-type and p-type regions from the same III-Nitride layer deposited on a substrate without using diffusion or ion-implantation techniques. The III-Nitride layer is co-doped simultaneously with n-type and p-type dopants, with p-type dopant concentration higher than n-type dopant to generate p-n junctions. The methods rely on obtaining activated p-type dopants only in selected regions to generate p-type layers, whereas the rest of the regions effectively behave as an n-type layer by having deactivated p-type dopant atoms.

Abstract: Two biomarkers are provided for obstructive apnea. A first biomarker determines amplitude and timing of inspiratory efforts from a bioelectric signal. The respiratory rate is compared with a normal pre-detection rate, and the amplitude of the effort is compared with a normal amplitude. The obstructive apnea is likely present if a series of inspiratory efforts are above a normal amplitude and with increasing amplitude, but at a normal rate. A second biomarker determines heart rate and respiratory rate. A normal lower threshold for heartbeat interval is established, and if subthreshold events occur (short RR intervals), a commencement time for each sequence of subthreshold events is compared for a respiratory rate-normalized window. If the number of subthreshold events exceeds a minimum for the window, obstructive apnea is likely present.
