Abstract: The present invention relates to the 14-3-3 protein which is a non-alcoholic fatty liver regulating factor. According to the present invention, two isoform proteins of 14-3-3, i.e., 14-3-3? and 14-3-3?, are different regulating factors for regulating the transcriptional activity of PPAR?2. 14-3-3? increases the transcriptional activity of PPAR?2 by binding to PPAR?2, on the other hand, 14-3-3? plays a role in decreasing the transcriptional activity of PPAR?2. Thus, 14-3-3? and 14-3-3?, which are PPAR?2 regulating factors, are proteins that play a vital role in lipid metabolism, and may be used as a target for the prevention or treatment of fatty liver.

Abstract: A neural device to which a conditioned response function is imparted and a driving method thereof are disclosed. Quantum dots and a polymer insulating layer are formed between upper and lower electrodes. Conductive filaments are formed at interfaces between the quantum dots and the polymer insulating layer. When a positive pulse, which is an unconditioned stimulus signal, is applied, the conductive filaments are formed, and a low resistance state is implemented. As the number of applications of a negative pulse, which is a conditioned stimulus signal, increases, the neural device is switched from a high resistance state to the low resistance state. Through this, the neural device having learning ability for the conditioned stimulus signal may be implemented and driven.

  • Patent number: 10439433
Abstract: A method of self-healing power grids after power outages includes providing an Adaptive Restoration Decision Support System (ARDSS) for generating a restoration solution using static and dynamic input data from power generator(s) powering transmission lines, from the transmission lines and loads. At a beginning of a restoration period a two-stage problem is solved including a first and second-stage problem with an optimal planning (OP) function as a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) problem using initial static and dynamic data to determine start-up times for the power generator and energization sequences for transmission lines involved in the power outage. Only the second-stage problem is again solved with an optimal real-time (OR) function using the start-up times and energization sequences along with updated static and dynamic data to determine operating parameters for the grid.

Abstract: An apparatus for indicating air disc brake pad wear includes a housing having a proximate end and a distal end; wherein a first opening is located at the proximate end. The housing receives a first rigid member having a proximate end and a distal end and partially contained in the housing, the first rigid member distal end extending from the distal end of the housing and configured to attach to an associated inboard disk brake pad assembly. The first rigid member moves linearly in response to the movement of the associated disc brake pad such that the proximate end of the first rigid member as seen through the first opening recedes as the associated disc brake pad wears. The housing may also receive a second rigid member configured to attach to a carrier of the air disc brake assembly for determining wear on an outboard disc brake pad.

  • Patent number: 10436725
Abstract: A method of operating a radiation inspection system includes identifying a regulatory region along a predetermined path where public access is restricted based upon criteria other than radiation exposure, measuring a radiation exposure level from a radiation source of the radiation inspection system within the regulatory region, irradiating a target within the regulatory region using the radiation source and without erecting a physical barricade, and determining a restricted area around the radiation source. The restricted area corresponds to an area where a radiation exposure rate exceeds a predetermined threshold. The radiation exposure rate may be determined by the radiation exposure level from the radiation source and a speed of the radiation inspection system. The method may include operating the radiation inspection system to dynamically adjust the restricted area so that it does not extend beyond the regulatory region. The radiation inspection system may be moveable along the predetermined path.
