Abstract: Electrical stimulation devices can be used to treat tinnitus. For example, tinnitus can be treated using implantable electrodes and stimulation devices for delivering electrical stimulation to a patient's cochlear region. Cochlear surface electrode(s), endosteal electrode(s), subendosteal electrode(s), intraosseous electrode(s), or short intracochlear electrode(s) (or a combination there-of), connected to existing or modified cochlear implant receiver/stimulator technology, can provide a successful model for long-term treatment of tinnitus in a large number of patients. In some cases, patients can simply turn on the tinnitus implant when experiencing troublesome tinnitus and gain instant relief.

Abstract: Provided is a real-time imaging method of NAPDH-dependent metabolic activity in a cell and a use thereof, and more particularly, an imaging method capable of measuring concentration gradient and change in an intracellular coenzyme using a mutant of metagenome-derived blue fluorescent protein (mBFP) in real-time and an application method thereof. In particular, the method of imaging and quantifying the coenzyme contained in various biological samples may be performed by improving fluorescence in a short time even under anaerobic conditions, without adding a substrate required for coenzyme measurement or conversion without destroying cells, and without consuming the time required for formation of a special structure (fluorophore) for generating fluorescence unlike the existing quantitative systems.

Abstract: Pericardial modification devices and methods can be used for the treatment of heart conditions. For example, this document describes devices and methods for treating heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, including diastolic heart failure, by performing a pericardial modification procedure. In one example embodiment, a method for treating diastolic heart failure includes creating an opening in a patient's pericardial tissue, or removing a portion of the patient's pericardial tissue. The creation of the opening or the removing of the pericardial tissue reduces pressure exerted by the pericardial tissue on the patient's heart. The pericardial modification procedures are performed while avoiding trauma to the epicardial surface of heart as well as the phrenic nerves.

Abstract: Alpha particle detecting devices are disclosed that have a chamber that can hold a fluid in a tensioned metastable state. The chamber is tuned with a suitable fluid and tension such that alpha emitting materials such as radon and one or more of its decay products can be detected. The devices can be portable and can be placed in areas, such as rooms in dwellings or laboratories and used to measure radon in these areas, in situ and in real time. The disclosed detectors can detect radon at and below 4 pCi/L in air; also, at and below 4,000 pCi/L or 300 pCi/L in water. When the fluid is tensioned the presence of radon can be determined by the formation of bubbles which give off detectable signals including a shock wave, light-beam cutoff, or a light burst, any of which can be measured to derive information on radon and progeny radioactivity levels in air or water.
