Abstract: An expansion agent comprising a foamable mixture of (a) 15-53 weight % of a foaming agent having 6 to 78 carbon atoms selected from the group of an ammonium salt, aliphatic amine salt and/or an alkali metal salt of an alkyl sulfate, hydroxyalkyl sulfate, alkyl ether sulfate and/or aryl alkyl ether sulfate; (b) 5-42 weight % of a dispersant having 22 to 260 carbon atoms selected from the group of an alkyl alkyleneoxy amine and/or its quaternary alkylsulfate, alkylhalide or alkylphosphate derivative; and (c) 5-40 weight % of a stabilizer having 8 to 68 carbon atoms selected from the group of a sodium and/or potassium salt of an alkyl sulfosuccinate; and the combination of said mixture with a synthetic resin, latex or natural rubber to provide a coating or finishing composition; the process of applying said composition to a substrate and the treated substrate product having incorporated the composition of the invention.
Abstract: Non-skid floor covering having a plastics wear layer over a vinyl substrate. The wear layer has dispersed therein between about 20 and about 40 wt % particulate plastics material in the size range between about 200 mesh and about 1/16 inch. The particulate material has a hardness of not more than Rockwell M-100 and a Taber abrasion weight loss of not more than about 75 mg per 1000 cycles using CS-17 wheels and 1000 g weights.
Abstract: Polymers having a tertiary amide group, particularly homopolymers and copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone, are modified by treatment with reactive acid chlorides, the amide functions being converted into amide chlorides. These modified polymers are reactive intermediates and may be used to obtain a variety of new polymeric substances.
Abstract: Molding composition comprising: (a) copolyester of (i) a polymethylene glycol having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms, (ii) a dimeric fatty acid and (iii) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, wherein the dimeric fatty acid comprises from 1 to 30 wt. % of the copolyester, and; (b) from about 10 to about 45 wt. % of thermally stable reinforcing fibers such as glass fibers.
Abstract: This invention relates to the control and/or eradication of Eumycotina type fungi in phanerogamia plants with one or more of the substituted carboxylic amides having the formula: ##STR1## wherein A is an organic radical of from 2 to 14 carbon atoms and is selected from the group consisting of hydroxyalkyl, hydroxyalkoxy, haloalkyl radicals and substituted alkylether radicals having the structure --R.sub.1 --O--R.sub.2 --, where R.sub.1 is alkylene of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 is alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms substituted with a hydroxy, carboxylate or halocarboxylate group; and wherein R is an acyclic alkyl radical, an alkenyl radical having one or more doubly bonded carbon atoms, a mono- or di- fluorinated benzyl radical or a mono- or di- chlorinated benzyl radical, said R radical containing from 4 to 20 carbon atoms.

Abstract: Polyester compositions comprising a blend of poly (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkylene terephthalate) with a diepoxy compound and a multiphase composite polymer are disclosed. The multiphase polymer has a first elastomeric phase polymerized from a monomer system including C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl acrylate as well as crosslinking and graft-linking monomers and a final rigid thermoplastic phase polymerized in the presence of the elastomeric phase.
Abstract: Molding composition and molded products comprising polybutylene terephthalate containing thermally stable reinforcing fibers, such as glass fibers, having an aspect ratio of at least about 5, and between about 5 and about 70 wt. % based on total PBT composition of novaculite having an average particle size between about 3 and about 5 microns. In preferred embodiments the composition also includes amorphous thermally stable resins such as polymethyl methacrylate and poly(butylene terephthalate-co-tetramethylene oxide).
Abstract: Plastic tile or similar items are disclosed having an adhesive backing suitable for adhesion to walls. The tiles are formulated from a vinyl chloride based resin and filler, and include a plasticizer of the formula: ##STR1## which R is a lower alkyl radical and R' is an aryl, aralkyl, or an alkaryl radical. A hot melt type pressure sensitive adhesive coating is provided on the plastic tile, the coating comprising a vinylic copolymer made of a minor portion of styrene units or derivatives thereof, and a major portion of butadiene, isoprene, or other similar units.
Abstract: A cationic dye carrier composition comprising a mixture of between about 50 wt% and about 85 wt% phenoxyethanol; between about 5 wt% and about 45 wt% of the triethanol amine salt of phenoxy poly(ethyleneoxy) phosphonic ester having the formula: ##STR1## wherein n is a whole integer of 1 or 2; m is 3-n; d is 0 or 1; p is a mixture averaging 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 units and R is alkyl having from 4 to 18 carbon atoms and between about 0 wt% and about 45 wt% butylbenzoate to provide a 100% carrier composition. The carrier composition is employed for cationic dyes in the dyeing of cationic dyeable polyester fabric, particularly blends of polyesters.
Abstract: Monaza amines and/or amides having a 5 membered ring containing 4 carbon atoms or a 6 membered ring containing 5 carbon atoms, in which the nitrogen atom is bonded to hydrogen, alkyl of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or hydroxyalkyl of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; which compounds function as agents for inhibiting in vivo formation of ethylene in plant biochemical processes.
Abstract: The process for increasing the molecular weight of poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone over that normally obtained by suspension polymerization of N-vinylpyrrolidone in a saturated hydrocarbon suspension medium, by adding to the suspension medium a controlled amount of water, specifically an amount between about 1% and 35% by weight based on the total weight of N-vinylpyrrolidone monomer. The significantly higher molecular weight of the resulting polymeric product can be still further increased by additionally incorporating in the suspension medium between about 0.001 mol % and about 1 mol % of a difunctional vinyl cross-linking agent per mol of N-vinylpyrrolidone monomer. The polymeric products of the present invention are preferably water soluble granules having a porous structure; although the present invention also concerns the poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone having a number average molecular weight of between 400,000 and 2,000,000, preferably between 450,000 and 1,500,000 in any physical form.

Abstract: Heat curable liquid polyvinylchloride plastisol or organosol resin is coated onto a porous fiber web in an amount sufficient to saturate the web. Liquid resin on one surface of the web is gelled by passing the web around a heated roll which, together with another heated roll, forms a compression nip. The web passes through the nip and around the second heated roll to gell the resin on the other surface of the web, after which the curing of the resin is completed in an oven.
Abstract: The present invention provides novel biguanide compounds for use as agricultural fungicides. The compounds are 1-(alkoxyphenyl)-5-(substituted phenyl) biguanides having the formula: ##STR1## where R is alkyl C.sub.4 -C.sub.14,R' is hydrogen or alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.5,X is halo, nitro, cyano, trihalomethyl, alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.8, alkoxy C.sub.1 -C.sub.8, phenoxy, alkoxycarbonyl C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 or acyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.4, and,n is 1 or 2, and acid addition salts thereof.The invention further relates to a composition and method for controlling pathogenic fungi with a fungicidally effective amount of said compound.

Abstract: This invention describes an aqueous, glass fiber dispersion composition for making uniform, high strength glass mats which comprises a plurality of glass fibers dispersed in an aqueous system comprising an effective amount of an amine oxide and a derivatized guar gum.A wet-laid process for making such mats using said dispersion composition also is described.
Abstract: This invention relates to catalytic hydrogenation of organic compounds containing carbonyl groups, and, particularly, to the effective and rapid reduction of the carbonyl group to the corresponding hydroxy group, sometimes even very selectively in the presence of a carbon-to-carbon unsaturated group in the same compound, using as a hydrogenation catalyst Raney nickel having molybdenum adsorbed thereon.
Abstract: Vinyl floor or wall tile is surfaced with a clear, durable wear layer. The wear layer comprises urethane compound photo-polymerized from a fluid coating composition having a volatility of at least 2 percent and comprising at least 2 photo-polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups of the general structure: ##STR1## where R is either H or CH.sub.3. The wear layer is applied to a continuous sheet of vinyl composition traveling at a rate of at least about 80 ft./min. at a temperature of at least about 110.degree. F., and cured by exposure to ultra-violet radiation.
Abstract: Insoluble cross-linked homopolymers of vinylpyrrolidone or copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone are prepared by reaction of the soluble homopolymer or copolymer with certain acid chlorides at a temperature between 75.degree. C. and about 140.degree. C., to obtain a precipitate. Alternately, the insoluble product may be prepared by heating a partial amide chloride of a homopolymer or copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone.
