Abstract: Adhesion of a hydrophilic photographic emulsion to a hydrophobic polyester substrate is achieved by providing the substrate with a surface layer containing free carboxy groups and incorporating in the emulsion a cross-linking agent which can cross-link the emulsion and the carboxy containing surface layer. Carbodiimides are a class of cross-linking agents having this capability.
Abstract: This invention relates to copolymerizable ultraviolet light absorber compounds having the formula: ##STR1## where: R is alkylene oxyalkylene, alkyleneoxyalkylene or phenylene, which R groups are of up to 10 carbon atoms and are unsubstituted or substituted with hydroxy;R' and R" are independently hydrogen or alkyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 ; andR'" is alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6, substituted alkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6, or alkoxy C.sub.1 -C.sub.6.
Abstract: Alkenes and/or alkadienes are contacted with molecular oxygen and an oxidative dehydrogenation catalyst consisting essentially of silver, molybdenum and oxygen, with the silver-to-molybdenum atom ratio being in the range of about 0.25:1 to about 10:1 to produce furan compounds.
Abstract: Flexible, sheet-type covering material is made by coating a porous mat with mechanically frothed plastic foam. The foam is gelled, at least partially fused and then calendered to crush the foam.
Abstract: This invention pertains to asphaltic sheet sound deadener for use as a vibration damping medium, which can be bonded in place without excessive sag or flow by subjecting the material to 250.degree.-400.degree. F. The main use of this material is in the automotive field, but may be used in other areas such as the appliance and furniture industries. The melt flow properties of the deadener are controlled by the use of ground mica.
Abstract: Electroreprographic films comprising a support member which are capable of acquiring an electrostatic charge which on passing through a toner bath pick up unwanted toner outside the image area which is not fixed during development. The unwanted toner pick up is minimized by applying a layer of anti-static material to the otherwise uncoated back of the support.
Abstract: High strength roofing products using a novel glass fiber mat are described herein. The roofing products include shingles and built up roofing membranes and systems.
Abstract: Poly (C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkylene terephthalate) molding composition containing mica and a multiphase composite polymer. The multiphase polymer has a first elastomeric phase polymerized from a monomer system including C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl acrylate as well as crosslinking and graftlinking monomers and has a final rigid thermoplastic phase polymerized in the presence of the elastomeric phase. Preferred compositions also include thermally stable reinforcing fibers such as glass fibers.
Abstract: Sheet vinyl covering material having a moisture permeable backing layer of material such as asbestos felt which is dimensionally stable under varying moisture conditions and resistant to degradation from water. The backing layer is sealed on one side with a layer of vinyl halide-vinylidene halide copolymer which is overlaid with a layer of open cellular foamed resinous material. The sheet vinyl laminate also has a resinous wear layer overlying the foamed layer.
Abstract: Improved surfactants can be produced from alkyl aryl poly(ethyleneoxy) sulfonates, represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R is an alkyl or dialkyl group having at least 6 carbon atoms; andn is greater than 9; andMe is a monovalent cation, preferably Na, NH.sub.4, K or Li.High solids content aqueous vinyl acetate emulsions having long term stability are provided by polymerizing vinyl acetate in the presence of the surfactant and water. The quantity of water is predetermined so as to produce a latex having at least 40% solids.
