Abstract: A broad spectrum sulfur-containing fungicide having the formula ##STR1## wherein X is sulfide, disulfide, sulfinyl, sulfonyl or sulfonate; m has a value of from 0 to 2; halo is fluorine, chlorine or bromine; and R is a radical having not more than 4 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkenyl, haloalkenyl and haloalkyl; and the method of applying said esters to plants for control of fungi infestation.
Abstract: A broad spectrum fungicidal naphthylene diester having the formula ##STR1## wherein R, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently a radical having not more than 4 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkenyl, haloalkenyl and haloalkyl; either m or n is 1 and the remaining subscript is zero and mixtures of the above diesters and the method of applying said diesters to plants for control of fungi infestation.
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided herein a process for producing a distilled butanediol product of high quality in high yield. The process begins with a crude butynediol solution which is made by an ethynylation reaction between aqueous formaldehyde and acetylene. The crude butynediol solution contains at least a metallic ion, usually sodium, magnesium and/or calcium ion, and an anion, particularly, formate ion, and usually also acetate ion, and often silicic acids and silicic acid salts, as impurities, and unreacted formaldehyde. After substantially stripping the solution of the unreacted formaldehyde, the stripped solution is treated with ion exchange resin, including at least a cation exchange resin to remove one or more of the metallic ions present, and as an anion exchange resin to remove the formate ion, and the acetate ion and silicic acids and silicic acid salts, should they be present in the solution.
Abstract: The process relates to the recovering of essentially pure acetylene from the gaseous out-put stream from a coal to acetylene conversion process. A plasma arc generator or other high energy type reactor can be used for the conversion to coal. The gaseous out-put stream is initially treated in an acid gas removal stage by absorbing HCN and H.sub.2 S in an organic solvent such as N-methyl pyrrolidone and scrubbing with a caustic agent such as NaOH to remove CO.sub.2. In a second stage, the gaseous out-put stream is scrubbed with the organic solvent to provide a sweet gas treatment and remove essentially pure acetylene as a product. In a third stage, the second stage gases are first hydrogenated, then desulferized and then methanated. The out-put from the third stage is recycled to the coal to acetylene conversion process. In a fourth stage, the organic solvent from said second stage is refined and recycled to the first stage and/or second stage.

Abstract: A broad spectrum biphenyl ester fungicide having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is a radical having not more than 4 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkenyl, haloalkenyl and haloalkyl; m has a value of from 0 to 2 and mixtures of the above diesters and the method of applying said diesters to plants for control of fungi infestation.
Abstract: This invention describes a method of regenerating the activity of deactivated supported-nickel catalysts that have lost activity after use as a hydrogenation catalyst in the finishing stage of the process of conversion of butynediol to butanediol. The method comprises contacting said deactivated catalyst with hydrogen at a temperature of about 200.degree. to 500.degree. C. to convert surface polymers to gaseous compounds and removing said gaseous compounds from the vicinity of the thus-treated catalyst. In the preferred form of the invention, in a single step, a slow stream of hydrogen is passed through the deactivated catalyst in situ as a fixed bed and the gaseous compounds are removed simultaneously in the hydrogen stream.
Abstract: A composition comprising a mixture of a N-heterocyclic monoamide such as e.g. N-methyl pyrrolidone or a polymer thereof, and a 2-halo-ethylphosphonic acid useful for the treatment of plants including trees, shrubs, field crops, grasses and ornamentals to achieve enhanced plant growth regulatory effects. Of particular interest are the treatments of apple trees to promote fruit redening; treatment of cherry, hazel and walnut trees to advance fruit loosening; treatment of cucumbers to induce stunting and to promote female sex expression; treatment of tobacco to hasten maturation and to inhibit tillering and treatment of cotton plants prior to harvesting to provide defoliation synchronized with increased, boll opening in preparation for harvest of quality cotton in high yields.

Abstract: This invention relates to a composition comprising a mixture of a N-heterocyclic amide, such as N-methylpyrrolidone, and a 2-haloethylsulfinate having from 3 to 22 carbon atoms for the treatment of plants, including trees, shrubs, farm crops and ornamentals to achieve promotional and sustained hormonal ethylene plant growth regulatory effects; and the method of using and preparing said composition.
Abstract: Roofing granules coated with insolubilized reaction product of a coating composition comprising water, kaolin clay, sodium silicate, titanium dioxide and ammonium nitrate or nitrate of one or more group 1A metals.
Abstract: The present invention relates to diazo copiers and is concerned with the supply of gaseous developing agent to a developing section of a copier, and the removal of surplus developing agent from this section of the copier, and from the developed copy material. The copier apparatus includes means to pass the developing agent (a gas) from a reservoir and through a gas governor. The governor functions to reduce the gas pressure to a set, lower value. The lower pressure gas then enters a development chamber through which the material for development also passes. Surplus gas is removed from the material for development by a heating and suction means.
