Abstract: A method for cleaning objects (e.g., wafers, integrated circuits, photonic devices, opto-electronic devices, piezoelectronic devices, microelectromechanical systems (“MEMS”), sensors, actuators, solar cells, flat panel displays (e.g., LCD, AMLCD), biological and biomedical devices) of particles (e.g., particulate contamination) that attach themselves to surfaces of the objects. The method includes applying a high energy laser source on a surface of a substrate to release one or more particles from the surface of the substrate while maintaining the substrate in a vacuum environment; and applying an electrostatic source directed to the substrate to attract the released one or more particles from the substrate to remove the one or more particles from the surface of the substrate. The method also removes the substrate from the vacuum environment.
Abstract: A method of forming substrates. The method includes providing a donor substrate; and forming a cleave layer comprising a cleave plane on the donor substrate. The cleave plane extends from a periphery of the donor substrate through a center region of the substrate. The method also includes forming a device layer on the cleave layer. The method also includes selectively introducing a plurality of particles along the periphery of the cleave plane to form a higher concentration region at the periphery and a lower concentration region in the center region. Selected energy is provided to the donor substrate to initiate a cleaving action at the higher concentration region at the periphery of the cleave plane to cleave the device layer at the cleave plane.

Abstract: Polypeptides of adeno-associated virus (AAV) that bind to AAV antibodies or block binding of AAV to mammalian cells are described. Derivatives of peptides can be less immunogenic, enhance binding to cells, render a virus tissue specific and so on. The nucleic acid sequence encoding those derivatives can be incorporated into a capsid encoding sequence to enable a virus to express such a derivative and be less immunogenic, have enhanced transduction efficiency or be tissue specific.
Abstract: A service communication system for mobile vehicles has a cellular telephony interface in individual ones of the mobile vehicles, for establishing telephony events over a cellular network with a base station, and a global positioning system in individual ones of the mobile vehicles for determining global position from transmissions from GPS satellites. A network of cellular base stations receives from and broadcasts to the mobile vehicles, lo and bridges events between cellular and public switched telephone service (PSTN) protocol. A unique network-level routing system is connected by first telephony trunks to the base stations and enabled to retrieve GPS position from the telephony events, and is connected by other trunks to a plurality of service centers connected to the network-level routing system, which determines a destination for individual ones of the telephony events among the plurality of service centers according to the retrieved GPS position.

Abstract: A method of smoothing a silicon surface formed on a substrate. According to the present invention a substrate having a silicon surface is placed into a chamber and heated to a temperature of between 1000°-1300° C. While the substrate is heated to a temperature between 1000°-1300° C., the silicon surface is exposed to a gas mix comprising H2 and HCl in the chamber to smooth the silicon surface.
Abstract: An instrument for processing light information to assay chemical or biological molecules is made more flexible by the use of a replaceable filter module. Several light filters, or in one embodiment dichroic mirrors, are mounted in a common module in fixed position relative to each other. The whole filter module can then be removed, and a different one inserted in its place, to change the wavelength bands of light detected by the instrument, as needed, for different applications.

Abstract: A technique for forming a film of material (12) from a donor substrate (10). The technique has a step of forming a stressed region in a selected manner at a selected depth (20) underneath the surface. An energy source such as pressurized fluid is directed to a selected region of the donor substrate to initiate a controlled cleaving action of the substrate (10) at the selected depth (20), whereupon the cleaving action provides an expanding cleave front to free the donor material from a remaining portion of the donor substrate.
Abstract: Lentiviral vectors modified at the 5′ LTR or both the 5′ and 3′ LTR's are useful in the production of recombinant lentivirus vectors. Such vectors can be produced in the absence of a functional tat gene. Multiple transformation of the host cell with the vector carrying the transgene enhances virus production.

Abstract: A digital display unit adjusting the phase of a sampling clock based on the examination of a display data signal contained in a received analog display signal. The phase may be adjusted by determining a boundary between display data portions representing successive pixel data elements. As the boundaries provide the timing information related to the source clock, the phase of the sampling clock can be adjusted when ever the boundaries can be determined accurately. The phase of the sampling clock can be adjusted potentially every sampling clock cycle if the boundaries can be determined. The area for examination can be minimized by first determining an expected boundary based on synchronization signal accompanying the analog display data, and examining only a small area surrounding the expected boundary.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to novel replication-deficient adenoviral vectors characterized in that they harbor at least two lethal early region gene deletions (E1 and E4) that normally transcribe adenoviral early proteins. These novel recombinant vectors find particular use in human gene therapy treatment whereby the vectors additionally carry a transgene or therapeutic gene that replaces the E1 or E4 regions. The present invention is further directed to novel packaging cell lines that are transformed at a minimum with the adenoviral E1 and E4 gene regions and function to propagate the above novel replication-deficient adenoviral vectors.

Abstract: To control multiple electronic devices in homes and other buildings through telephone lines, a user may establish communication by utilizing Caller ID supplied by a local telephone service supplier and, where such Caller ID service is unavailable, user generated Caller ID tones and simultaneous FAX pilot tones and data transmission, to signal to a device to be controlled or to a receiving station that instructions are received and communication is required.
Abstract: A call center having agent stations comprising telephones connected to computer stations by a Telephone Application Programming Interface (TAPI)-compliant bridge has data pertaining to callers stored in a database on a local area network (LAN) to which the computer stations are also connected. Origination data for incoming calls, both conventional calls to the telephones and computer-simulated calls to the computer platforms, is used as a key to extract data pertaining to calls from the database for display on video display units (VDUs) of the computer workstations where the calls are terminated. In some cases, data is only extracted and displayed for calls from previously listed origination points.

Abstract: Telephone call routing in networks is provided by forwarding routing data other than origination identification and destination identification in-band with calls, and using the in-band data at call destinations to do further routing. In some embodiments negotiation is accomplished between routers at different points in the network based on the in-band routing data. Practice of the invention extends to intelligent telephony networks and as well to simulated telephone calls between computers in wide area data networks, such as the Internet and Intranets.

Abstract: An integrated telephony network includes both a connection-oriented switched telephony (COST) network and a data network telephony (DNT) network, the two networks connected by a dual-ported interactive voice response (IVR) server, the ports adapted to communicate with callers from each network, and a dual-ported translating bridge unit adapted to bi-directionally translate between the data protocols of the connected networks. Each network has at least one service control point (SCP) connected to the IVR, and calls received in either network are routed by connecting callers to the IVR for eliciting information from the caller, and then further routing either in the receiving network or over the translating bridge unit into and through the opposite network according to the information elicited from the caller. An SCP in the DNT network is implemented by connecting a computer-telephony integration (CTD) server to at least one IP router in the DNT.
