Abstract: Novel sodium amoxicillin preparations which are easily converted into stable, suitably injectable solutions which are free of allergic reactions-causing chemicals and which contain besides sodium amoxicillin, a small amount of sodium hydroxide and optionally also a small amount of sodium chloride, and a process for their preparation and a process for the preparation of aqueous sodium amoxicillin containing injection solutions. The sodium amoxicillin preparations are prepared by the as fast but gradual addition as possible of an excess of sodium hydroxide to a suspension of amoxicillin trihydrate in water until the amoxicillin has completely dissolved, whereafter optionally a part of the excess of base is immediately neutralized with hydrochloric acid while the temperature is kept between 0.degree.-30.degree. C., followed by sterile filtration of the obtained solution, freezing the solution and freeze drying the obtained solid in flasks or in bulk.

Abstract: In a process for the preparation of 6,6-dibromo-penicillanic acid-1,1-dioxide comprising reacting 6.beta.-amino-penicillanic acid-1,1-dioxide with a nitrosating agent in the presence of bromine and an inorganic acid or strong organic acid, the improvement comprising effecting the reaction in the presence of an alcohol resulting in a high purity product.

Abstract: Novel sebum synthesis inhibiting compositions comprising a sebum inhibiting effective amount of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and acyl of an organic carboxylic acid free of additional carboxyl group and their non-toxic, pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts and an inert pharmaceutical carrier and to a novel method of inhibiting sebum synthesis in warm-blooded animals and novel 1H-imidazol-1-ethanol esters.

Abstract: In a process for the production and maintenance of well-adhering biomass attached to carrier particles capable of decomposing contaminants in waste water containing both well-adhering and non-adhering microorganisms wherein a granular carrier is contacted in a reaction space with a continuous stream of waste water containing both well-adhering and non-adhering microorganisms and nutrients for the growth and the maintenance of the microorganisms in an adherent layer until a sufficiently thick, well-adhering layer of microorganisms is formed and maintained on the carrier, the improvement comprising maintaining the residence time of the waste water in the reaction space lower than the reciprocal maximum growth rate of the microorganisms on carrier particles of at least 0.1 mm while generating in the reaction liquid shear forces caused by liquid motion and circulation caused by gas bubbles and washing out of the reaction space all non-adhering microorganisms.

Abstract: A novel process for the preparation of high purity penicillanic acid-1,1-dioxide comprising subjecting 6,6-dibromo-penicillanic acid-1,1-dioxide to dehalogenation with magnesium in association with an acid in high yields.

Abstract: A novel process for the preparation of 20-keto-.DELTA..sup.16 -steroids comprising reacting a 17-(isocyanosulfonylmethylene)-steroid with an alkylating agent QR.sub.4 wherein R.sub.4 is an organic group and Q is a group or atom readily displaced with a nucleophile to form a 20-isocyano-20-sulfonyl-.DELTA..sup.16 -steroid followed by hydrolysis which are intermediates for the preparation of corticosteroids and the novel intermediates formed therein.

Abstract: A novel process for the preparation of 21-hydroxy-20-keto-.DELTA..sup.16 -steroids comprising reacting a 17-(isocyanosulfonylmethylene)-steroid with an aldehyde and an alcohol to form a 17-(2-alkoxy-3-oxazolin-4-yl)-.DELTA..sup.16 -steroid and subjecting the latter to hydrolysis to obtain the corresponding 21-hydroxy-20-keto-.DELTA..sup.16 -steroid which are useful to prepare corticoid steroids and novel intermediates.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of penicillanic acid-1,1-dioxides of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and substituent such as halogen or acetoxy and R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a pharmaceutically acceptable metal ion and/or ester radical comprising debrominating a 6-.alpha.-bromo- and/or 6,6-dibromo-penicillanic 1,1-dioxide selected from the group consisting of the formula ##STR2## wherein X and R have the above definition in an aqueous containing medium with zinc in association with an acid having a pK.sub.a -value measured in water less than 3.5 and optionally if R is H converting the acid into a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester.

Abstract: An oxidative biological purification process for waste water in a fluidized-bed reactor at a pH between 5 and 8 in the oxidation space comprising passing waste water upwards through an air-sparged oxidation space containing aerobic biomass attached to insoluble carrier particles of a size of 0.1 to 2 mm with a specific gravity of 2 to 5 g/cm.sup.3 at such a rate that space loads of COD of 4-50 kg/m.sup.3 day are achieved while continuously and completely separating purified waste water leaving the oxidation space from said attached aerobic biomass, whereby the aerobic biomass prevails to at least a very substantial extent in a state of attachment to said carrier particles, undue surplus formation of said sludge being minimized by continuous control of the residence time of the waste water to be treated in the oxidation space between the limits of 0.3 to 20 hours, and at least all attached aerobic biomass is recycled to the oxidation space by way of settling.

Abstract: Infectious bronchitis vaccines for poultry derived from at least a virus strain of a novel serotype of the infectious-bronchitis virus (IBV), identified by the internal indication Gelderland. 901 and Brabant. 802, which have been deposited at the Czechoslovak National Collection of Type Cultures of the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology under the numbers CNCTC AO 17/81 and CNCTC AO 18/82 and at the Collection Nationale de Cultures de Microorganismes d'Institut Pasteur, under Nos. I-168 and I-202 and combined infectious-bronchitis vaccines derived from the IBV H. 120 or the IBV H. 52 of the Massachusetts type strain together with the novel before-mentioned virus strain; the infectious-bronchitis virus strain itself, and a process for preventing infectious-bronchitis in poultry by vaccination with a vaccine derived from the before-mentioned strains. Preferably, live infectious bronchitis vaccines are prepared, which contain a virus content of at least 10.sup.4..sup.0 EID.sub.
