Abstract: A vehicle wheel includes a rim portion, a hub portion, a plurality of spokes and a plurality of decorative attachments. Each pair of adjacent spokes defines a window therebetween. The plurality of decorative attachments are secured to the wheel and each define a plurality of rearwardly extending boss portions. Each boss portion abuts the wheel. In certain applications, the boss portions may be received within a respective countersunk hole in the wheel and engaged by a fastener for securing the decorative attachment to the wheel. A free end of each of the boss portions abuts a bottom of its respective countersunk hole and the decorative attachment is otherwise spaced from the wheel to reduce noise issues. Alternatively, the ends of the boss portion may be spaced from the wheel and drawn toward the wheel with the threaded fasteners.

  • Patent number: 8558027
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to compositions, systems, and methods of forming an amine (e.g., methylenedianiline (MDA)) using an acid catalyst including, for example, a metal oxide-silica catalyst calcined at temperature(s) of about ?500° C. to form a solid acid silica-metal oxide catalyst. A metal oxide of a solid acid silica-metal oxide catalyst may comprise alumina. A process for making a solid acid silica-metal oxide catalyst may comprise calcining an amorphous alumina-silica material at temperature(s) of about ?500° C. and/or under an anhydrous and/or inert atmosphere. A rearrangement reaction of the condensation product of aniline and formaldehyde in the presence of a solid acid silica-metal oxide catalyst may yield more MDA and/or more desirable isomer(s) of MDA than reactions performed with a corresponding catalyst calcined at temperature(s) of less than 500° C.

  • Patent number: 8542844
Abstract: A sound modification system and a method of managing sound in a vehicle. The system includes an active noise reduction (ANR) controller, an engine sound enhancement (ESE) controller and a sound modification controller. When the vehicle is in a steady state driving condition, the sound modification controller activates the ANR controller and deactivates the ESE controller. In contrast, when the vehicle is in a non-steady state driving condition, the sound modification controller activates the ESE controller and deactivates the ANR controller. Preferably, when the vehicle switches between the steady state and non-steady state driving conditions, the sound modification controller activates and deactivates the ANR and ESE controllers at a rate that is not noticeable to a human. In summary, the system utilizes the ANR and ESE controllers to achieve an optimal passenger cabin experience for the driver during any driving condition.
