Abstract: A method, comprising: purging fuel vapors from a fuel vapor canister and/or a fuel vapor bleed element to an engine intake with air routed through a transmission bellhousing. In this way, purge air may be warmed by heat generated in the transmission bellhousing during engine operation, thereby increasing desorption efficiency and reducing bleed emissions. Further, purge air may be pressurized in the transmission bellhousing to allow purging operations irrespective of intake manifold vacuum.

Abstract: A vehicle seating assembly includes a seatback defining a cavity generally accessible via a slot disposed on a back panel of the seatback. A plurality of cover members extend over the cavity and operate between a flexed position and an unflexed position. The plurality of cover members are substantially flush with a planar portion of the back panel in the unflexed position. An elastic member is disposed on an inner-surface of the back panel proximate the plurality of cover members. The elastic member and the cover members define a pocket. The elastic member is configured to expand into the cavity, thereby expanding the pocket.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described to control the use of electrical power when charging a traction battery. A vehicle module can drive the contactor coils with two set-points for controlling the power into the contactor coils, namely, a travel or vehicle “on” set point and a charging, vehicle “off” set point. In use, full power is initially applied to the coils to guarantee immediate closure of the contactor. During charging and after closing the contactor, the power is set at the charging, vehicle “off” set point. The travel or vehicle “on” set point is higher than the charging, vehicle “off” set point. Using the charging, vehicle “off” set point reduces electricity consumption. The vehicle “on” set point is at a higher electrical level as it must maintain closure under worst-case vibration and shock conditions considering mounting location, contactor orientation, as well as other characteristics of the vehicle and contactor.

Abstract: A method of forming a vehicular instrument panel includes the steps: melting a first composite comprising carbon fibers and nylon resin; melting a second composite comprising glass fibers and nylon resin; injecting the melted composites into an instrument panel mold such that the carbon and glass fibers are each substantially concentrated within respective driver-side and passenger-side portions of the mold; and cooling the melted composites to form an instrument panel. The method may also include the step: forming a boundary region between the first and second melted composites in the mold such that the carbon and glass fibers in the mold are substantially mixed within the boundary region.

Abstract: An emergency in-lane steering assist system for use during a braking event comprises an object sensor for detecting the presence of an object in front of a motor vehicle and providing data from which the distance from the object to the motor vehicle is determined and a velocity sensor providing data from which the forward velocity of the motor vehicle is determined. A controller in communication with the object sensor and the velocity sensor calculates a Time to Contact (TTC) with the detected object and a steering system is responsive at least in part to operation by the controller. If the calculated TTC is less than a predetermined TTC, the controller provides a lateral steering input during the braking event to reduce the linear distance traveled by the motor vehicle relative to a predetermined path in the lane.

Abstract: A method is provided which mitigates the noise of a direct injection system in a port fuel injection and direct fuel injection (PFI-DI) engine and reduces NVH hardware. During a cold-start, the engine idle speed may be increased to mitigate the direct injection noise and during a warm idle, the engine cooling fan may be turned on during a direct injector cleanout cycle to mitigate the direct injection noise. This allows the PFI-DI engine to be run more efficiently without concern of the noise produced by the direct injectors and high pressure pump of the direct injection system.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for adjusting a wastegate in response to condensate forming conditions in a charge air cooler (CAC). In one example, a wastegate may be opened in response to an induction pressure greater than a threshold pressure when the induction pressure is greater than required to produce a manifold pressure required for a torque demand. Further, a compressor recirculation valve may be opened to further reduce the induction pressure during certain driving conditions.
Abstract: Moisture curable compositions including silylated polymers and methods for producing the same are provided. A two component moisture curable system for producing a cured or cross-linked silylated polymer having improved compression set properties is provided. The two component system comprises a first formulation and a second formulation. The first formulation comprises a silylated polymer, water, and filler and the second formulation comprises the silylated polymer, a curing catalyst comprising at least one Brønsted acid, and a moisture scavenger. The final cured formulation may have a compression set, determined by ASTM D395 or ISO 815-1, of less than 100%, and in some examples less than 50% and in some examples less than 15%. This demonstrated improvement in compression set not only allows the silylated polymers to be used in applications where cyclic loads are applied but also enhances product durability.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for adjusting an exhaust gas recirculation rate to provide accurate air-fuel ratio. The disclosure provides a method for calculating an exhaust-gas recirculation rate based on a measured exhaust-gas lambda and a turbocharger speed. Through the use of the exhaust-gas lambda and the turbocharger speed it is possible to calculate an exhaust-gas recirculation rate while dispensing with the difficult and unreliable determination of the mass air flow for determining an exhaust-gas recirculation rate, thus providing a stable method which further reduces fuel consumption and emissions.
