Abstract: An electric drive unit is provided having an electric motor-generator coupled with a torque converter. Vehicles and machines employing the same, as well as methods of using the same, are also disclosed. The motor-generator may be configured to selectively drive a rotatable shaft with a motor output torque and generate electrical power from rotation of the rotatable shaft. The electric drive unit may further include a torque converter having an input and an output separated by a fluid coupling. The fluid coupling may be configured to selectively multiply torque received at the input such that a drive unit output torque at the output is selectively increased in at least a predetermined rotational speed range of the electric motor-generator.

Abstract: Examples of techniques for vehicle communication between a first vehicle and a second vehicle are disclosed. An example method includes displaying, on an external vehicle display of the first vehicle, vehicle data. The method further includes capturing, by a camera of the second vehicle, an image of the external vehicle display. The method further includes processing, by a processing device associated with the second vehicle, the image to extract the vehicle data about the first vehicle. The method further includes determining, by the processing device, a position of the first vehicle relative to a position of the second vehicle based at least in part on the vehicle data. The method further includes controlling, by the processing device associated with the second vehicle, the second vehicle based at least in part on the position of the first vehicle relative to the position of the second vehicle.

Abstract: A riveting system, for use in mechanically linking adjacent workpieces, including a rivet having a height greater than a sum of thicknesses, measured along a line of riveting, of the workpieces being linked, so that the rivet can pass fully through the workpieces. The system also includes a riveting die, which may be a separate product. The die includes a protrusion extending from a peak toward a transition point; and a trough having a trough surface. The trough surface includes a trough inner wall, extending from the transition point to a trough bottom, and a trough outer wall, extending from the trough bottom to a trough outer edge. The technology also includes computerized systems for comparing a load-displacement profile of riveting to a pre-set profile to determine whether the riveting was performed properly.

Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for assisting the driver of a motor vehicle while driving through an intersection or road junction where at least three roads converge in a transition area. A future motion of an own or ego vehicle is estimated, and a future motion of a second vehicle is estimated. The probability of a collision between the own vehicle and the second vehicle is estimated based on the respective future motions. A search for a roadway marking arranged in the transition area is executed. If a roadway marking is found, the future motion of at least one of the own vehicle and second vehicle is estimated based on the detected roadway marking. A risk-reducing manuever is executed when the estimated collision probability exceeds a limiting value.
Abstract: A connecting rod is adapted to extend between, and connect to, a crankshaft and a piston pin. The connecting rod includes first and second end portions, and an elongated rail. The first end portion is adapted to connect to the crankshaft. The second end portion is adapted to connect to the piston pin. The elongated rail longitudinally extends between the first and second end portions, and includes a first and second flanges, and a web. The first flange has opposite outer and inner first faces. The second flange has opposite outer and inner second faces. The web has opposite first and second surfaces, and laterally spans between, and is attached to, the inner first face and the inner second face. The inner first face and the inner second face, at least in-part, converge toward one-another as the rail extends from the first end portion to the second end portion.
Abstract: An apparatus and method that detect a condition of a vehicle component are provided. The method includes diagnosing vehicle health of a vehicle by analyzing one or more from among vehicle performance, vehicle energy usage, and vehicle vibration and acoustics, performing fault isolation on the vehicle to detect a health condition of a vehicle component corresponding to the isolated fault if the vehicle health below a predetermined threshold, monitoring the vehicle component corresponding to the isolated fault and estimating a remaining useful life of the vehicle component corresponding to the isolated fault, and performing one or more from among continuously monitoring, scheduling maintenance, providing a warning, and performing fault mitigation based on the estimated remaining useful life of the vehicle component corresponding to the isolated fault.

Abstract: Example methods and systems may transport an object with a plurality of transport vehicles. An example transport vehicle may be autonomous, and may have one or more wheels extending from a body for engaging a ground surface. Example methods may include providing a destination for the object to the plurality of transport vehicles, wherein the plurality of transport vehicles determines a route to the destination, dividing the route into one or more route segments for the plurality of transport vehicles, encountering an obstacle with a first one of the transport vehicles while traveling along one of the route segments, and sending a location of the obstacle from the first transport vehicles to at least a second one of the transport vehicles. A second one of the transport vehicles may modify at least one of the route segments to avoid the obstacle based upon the provided location.

Abstract: An automotive vehicle includes a closure arranged relative a closure frame to selectively cover an opening to the vehicle. The vehicle also includes an actuator configured to move the closure among a plurality of positions including open and closed positions, and a first sensor configured to detect motion of the closure among the plurality of positions. The vehicle additionally includes a latch assembly with an engaged state to retain the closure in the closed position and a disengaged state to permit the closure to move among the plurality of positions. A second sensor is configured to detect the engaged or disengaged state of the latch assembly. The vehicle further includes a controller which is configured to, in response to the first sensor detecting motion of the closure among the plurality of positions and the second sensor detecting the latch assembly in the engaged state, provide a diagnostic signal.
