Abstract: Methods and heat-treated cast aluminum alloy components for a vehicle formed from an aluminum alloy having high levels of recycled aluminum scrap are provided. The alloy may have, by mass, silicon at ?5% to ?11%, magnesium at ?0.5%, iron at ?0.2% to ?1.1%, copper at ?0.5%, zinc at ?0.5%, titanium at ?0.2%, chromium at ?0.02%, manganese at ?0.05%, strontium at ?200 ppm; an alloying element at ?50 ppm to ?500 ppm selected from the group consisting of: barium, lanthanum, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, and combinations thereof, and a balance aluminum. The heat-treated cast aluminum alloy component is substantially free of faceted iron-containing intermetallics having a platelet shape and at least one region has a yield strength of ?180 MPa and an elongation of ?7%.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for controlling thermal conditioning of a battery system associated with brakes of a vehicle towing a trailer. In one embodiment, a method includes: determining, by a processor, that a temperature of the battery system is outside of a defined temperature range; determining, by the processor, a delta value between a brake request and a battery charge limit; generating, by the processor, a control signal to at least one of a heater and a compressor of the vehicle based on the delta value; generating, by the processor, a control signal to the battery system to initiate regeneration braking; and generating, by the processor, a braking reduction request to reduce braking by the trailer.

A method includes collecting sensor data generated by one or more sensors of a vehicle; detecting, by a fallback control system of the vehicle based on the sensor data, an imminent collision between the vehicle and an object in an environment of the vehicle using a first process different from a second process of a primary control system of the vehicle, wherein the first process and the second process are associated with at least one of a perception or a prediction; and transmitting, by the fallback control system to the primary control system, an indication of the detected imminent collision.

Abstract: A method in a simulation system includes: implementing a plurality of threads using an operating system that allocates a time quantum of a predetermined execution time to each thread during which the thread will not be preempted during execution; monitoring timing requirements of each of a plurality of tasks for a plurality of distinct virtual platforms; segmenting each of the plurality of tasks into one or more sequences of programmed instructions that can execute in a thread within a time quantum; providing the one or more sequences of programmed instructions for each of the plurality of tasks as a plurality of programmed instruction sequences with specific timing requirements; scheduling each of the plurality of programed instruction sequences, based on the specific timing requirements, to execute in one of the plurality of threads at an appropriate time; and performing real-time simulation of application code utilizing available computing compacity at full capacity.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for forming a pre-lithiated layered anode material. The method includes removing cations from a precursor material including a layered ionic compound to form creates a two-dimensional structure that defines a layered anode material. The method further includes inserting lithium ions using an anion insertion wet-chemical process into the layered anode materials to form the pre-lithiated layered anode material. The anion insertion wet-chemical process can be the same as or different form the cation extraction wet-chemical process. In each instance, the precursor material is be represented by MX2, where M is one of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) and X is one of silicon (Si), germanium (Ge), and boron (B) and the precursor material has alternating layers of M and X.

Abstract: Thermal management in a vehicle involves a compressor to output a refrigerant in vapor form for circulation in a refrigerant loop. A thermal management system includes a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system in the refrigerant loop including an evaporator and an HVAC condenser, and an exterior condenser in the refrigerant loop configured to vent heat to an exterior of the vehicle. A first variable refrigerant flow valve controls a flow rate of the refrigerant output by the compressor into the HVAC condenser, and a second refrigerant flow valve controls a flow rate of the refrigerant output by the compressor into the exterior condenser. A controller controls the first refrigerant flow valve and the second refrigerant flow valve based on a target output temperature for the HVAC condenser.

Abstract: A vehicle parameter estimation module is configured to generate a first estimate of a vehicle parameter based on operating conditions of a vehicle measured or estimated at a first time.
