  • Patent number: 6408929
Abstract: In the production of precision castings by centrifugal casting with controlled solidification, a melt is cast under vacuum or shield gas into a pre-heated mold (15) with a central gate (19) and several mold cavities proceeding from the gate toward the outer circumference (Da) of the mold (15). To prevent the formation of shrinkholes and porous areas in the castings, to save energy, and to increase the production rate, the mold (15) is operated at temperatures which decrease from the inside toward the outside. The mold consists of a material or material combination with a coefficient of thermal conductivity lower than that of copper. Before the melt is poured, the mold (15) is heated, starting from the gate (19), by a heating device (20), which projects into the gate, so that the gate (19) reaches a temperature which is a function of the material being cast. Heating is carried out at a rate sufficient to produce a temperature Gradient of at least 100° C., preferably of 200-600° C.

  • Patent number: 6409250
Abstract: A motor vehicle door has a door body separated by a separator into a wet area and a dry area, whereby the wet area is bounded on one side by an outer door panel and on the other side by the separator. The dry area bounds the separator in a direction towards the vehicle interior and the separator comprises an area-permeable pressure equalization element. The pressure equalization element is air-permeable at least from the side of the dry area in a direction towards the wet area and is water- and dust-impermeable in the opposite direction. The wet-area side of the pressure equalization element preferably has a low affinity for water and dust.

  • Patent number: 6408785
Abstract: A wetting device for the mat (10) of a carrier material comprises a grasping frame which is constituted by side ledges (101, 102, 104), whereby the mat to be coated (10) can be fixed by clamps (105) to the side ledges. At least one of the side ledges of the frame is configured flexible (bendable), since it preferably comprises several segments (101, 102) which are hinged together. Thus, the clamped mat (10) can be brought into a cylindrical configuration in which it can be coated by a spray device which is introduced into the inner space of the cylinder. Due to the subsequent bending of the flexible side ledge in the opposite direction, the mat (10) can be brought into a second cylindrical configuration for which its other upper surface constitutes the inner side of the cylinder and is thus available for being coated by the spray device. During the spraying operation, the cylinder axis is preferably orientated vertically in order to avoid non-homogeneities of the coating because of the gravitation.

  • Patent number: 6409228
Abstract: A spring system for connecting two flanges (13, 14), for use especially in a motor vehicle exhaust system. The spring system is configured as an elastic, flexible clamp with functionally first (1, 2) and second (4, 5) U-shaped clamping jaws positioned opposite each other. This provides a spring system which is easy to assemble and economical to produce. To this end the spring system has the U-shaped arms (6, 7) of the clamping jaws (1, 2; 4, 5) having only locally very restricted areas (8, 9, 10) for direct application to the pieces (11, 13; 12, 14) to be joined by means of the clamp. Four application areas (8) exercising both clamping functions are present in at least one of the clamping planes (100 or 200), of which two areas are arranged in pairs and situate diametrically opposite each other.

  • Patent number: 6408671
Abstract: A press has a tool which comprises an upper tool part and a lower tool part. The upper tool part is held on the press slide, while the lower tool part is stationarily mounted in the press frame. A movable forming element, such as a shearing blade, is provided in the lower tool part. The press drive is used for driving the shearing blade. For this purpose, a hydraulic force transmitting device is provided in the lower tool part and is actuated by way of a pressure pin. For the actuation, the slide or an element fixedly connected with the slide is used, the slide, in turn, being driven by the press drive. A hydraulic force transmitting device in the lower tool part permits a liberal tool construction and an arrangement of corresponding force transmitting devices for the at least temporary coupling between the slide and the hydraulic force transmitting device at points which hinder neither the access to the tool nor the workpiece transfer.
