  • Patent number: 4180751
Abstract: Improved mode-locked optical parametric oscillator apparatus comprises a mode-locked pump laser having a cavity with a predetermined effective length l.sub.p and a parametric oscillator having a nonlinear crystal, such as lithium niobate (LiNbO.sub.3), and singly resonant mirrors spaced apart by an effective distance l.sub.o which is substantially less than l.sub.p, i.e., l.sub.p .apprxeq.nl.sub.o where n.apprxeq.5-50. The interaction of the mode-locked pump output with the nonlinear crystal produces parametric outputs at signal (f.sub.s) and idler (f.sub.i) frequencies, the parametric oscillator mirrors being singly resonant at one of those two frequencies. The parametric oscillator may be disposed either externally of or within the pump cavity and the pump laser optionally may be Q-switched.

  • Patent number: 4179778
Abstract: Heat activated means are provided for applying areas of external pressure to the periphery of the panel portion of a cathode ray tube envelope during heat processing. The pressure is directly related to the heat cycle to which the tube envelope is subjected, and induces a state of compression in particularly the panel portion thereby minimizing the occurrence of implosions.

  • Patent number: 4179297
Abstract: A composition for a brazing slurry which will form solid connections below 1600.degree. C. The composition comprises, by weight, about 15% to 16.5% fine particle tungsten; about 5% to 6% calcium oxide; about 4% to 5% silicon dioxide; about 6% to 7% aluminum oxide; and about 67% to 70% of an organic binder. The composition is well suited to attaching leads to metallized patterns formed on ceramic substrate and can also be employed as the pattern forming material. When employed in electron discharge devices as a means of forming cathode and/or heater configurations, and for attaching leads thereto, the material is resistant to heater-cathode leakage.

  • Patent number: 4179176
Abstract: A low insertion force connector for making electrical contact between a circuit board and an external circuit is provided. The connector includes a housing having longitudinal side walls forming a zone for receiving the circuit board. A plurality of contacts mounted within the zone have upper portions for contacting opposite sides of the circuit board. Lower portions of the contacts are mounted in the housing. A camming means is journaled for rotation about an axis substantially normal to the side walls and includes camming surfaces engageable therewith so as to move the side walls apart when the camming means is actuated. The contacts are operably associated with the respective sides of the housing so as to apply a negligible insertion force on a circuit board when the camming means is actuated.

  • Patent number: 4178610
Abstract: A circuit utilizing a single clamp, and therefore requiring only a single bias supply, to DC clamp the inputs of the three chrominance amplifiers is shown. The clamp employs a switch that is connected to the bias supply and coupled by separate diodes to the inputs of the chrominance amplifiers. The switch and diodes are conductive only during the horizontal retrace period. As a result, during the retrace period, the amplifier inputs are clamped to a DC value determined by the bias supply; during the trace, or information-bearing period the inputs are isolated from the supply, as well as from each other.

  • Patent number: 4178536
Abstract: A horizontal output stage including a switching device for coupling the input of the horizontal output transistor to a feedback network and bias means during startup and to the secondary of an interstage coupling transformer during steady-state operation. During startup the output transistor operates in an oscillatory mode thereby developing an alternating current in the flyback transformer. The supply voltage for the horizontal oscillator is derived from a winding on the flyback transformer. Once this supply voltage reaches the value required for sustained operation of the oscillator, the switching device disconnects the output transistor from the feedback network and couples it to the interstage transformer so that the output transistor is driven by the signal developed by the horizontal oscillator.

  • Patent number: 4176389
Abstract: A photoflash unit having a flashed lamp indicator comprising two layers of film having different colors, one of the layers being a heat-shrinkable material and the other layer being translucent and substantially unaffected by the heat of lamp flashing. An adjacent indicia sheet provides an aperture through which one of the indicator colors is visible. Upon flashing of an associated lamp, the heat shrinkable layer shrivels from view and the color of the other layer becomes visible through the aperture to clearly identify which lamp was flashed. In one embodiment, the two-color indicator is used to identify the last lamp flashed in a sequence, while each of the preceding lamps in the sequence has a respectively associated single-layer color indicator which shrinks away to leave a void upon flashing of the lamp.

  • Patent number: 4176330
Abstract: A microwave diplexer apparatus for handling simultaneously two independent polarized transmitted signals at one frequency and two independent polarized received signals at a lower frequency. In the transmit mode of operation, a pair of input signals are applied to a first orthogonal mode transducer wherein the electric fields of the signals are established at right angles to each other. The orthogonal, linearly-polarizer signals are then transformed by a pin/ridge-loaded circular polarizer device to oppositely-rotating circularly-polarized signals and coupled via an antenna port of a second orthogonal mode transducer to an antenna for transmission to a desired target.

  • Patent number: 4174944
Abstract: An electrically fired flash lamp which utilizes a single conductive lead member. The lead protrudes within the lamp's envelope and is covered by a quantity of primer material. A conductive coating (e.g. tin oxide) covers a major portion of the external surface of the envelope and is capacitively coupled through the envelope's wall to the combustible filamentary material (e.g. shredded zirconium) therein. In another embodiment, a second conductive coating is located on the internal surface of the envelope opposite the outer coating and in electrical contact with the filamentary material. Accordingly, both coatings are capacitively coupled when the lamp is electrically fired. A sequentially-activated array of the above lamps is also disclosed.
