  • Patent number: 7131275
Abstract: A gas turbine engine system includes an electric starter motor which utilizes a partially hollow or cupped shaped rotor. Space is provided inside the rotor to fit the required clutch, bearings, and drive shaft. A rotor shaft drives the input shaft through the clutch. The clutch is mounted within a clutch cavity formed within an annular housing portion of the housing. The annular housing portion is at least partially conical and preferably extends at least partially within a hollow rotor mounted to the rotor shaft. A short package is provided due to the telescoped architecture while retaining the maximum length for electromagnetics.

  • Patent number: 7105937
Abstract: A starter/generator system for a gas turbine engine used in aeronautical applications that couples a single dynamoelectric machine to the gas turbine engine through a torque converter in a starting mode, and then disengages the torque converter and engages the engine to the dynamoelectric machine through an adjustable speed transmission in a generating mode after the engine reaches self-sustaining speed, wherein the speed of the adjustable speed transmission is set to match the frequency of AC generated by the dynamoelectric machine with on-board electrical equipment requirements to suit flight conditions.

  • Patent number: 7094042
Abstract: A dual-inlet gear pump includes a drive gear and a driven gear. The invention utilizes the discovery that the drive gear will typically move a higher flow volume than does the driven gear, particularly when the fluid being moved is an air/oil mixture. The present invention takes advantage of this discovery to communicate a first higher expected flow source to the drive gear, and to separately communicate a second, relatively lower expected flow rate to the driven gear. A particular application is in a scavenging pump for a jet engine.

  • Patent number: 7091702
Abstract: The present invention is a generator control system where each generator in the system has an associated controller. Each controller communicates generator data or information with the other controllers in the generator control system. Each of the controllers includes a digital signal processor for analyzing the generator signal from the associated generator and information from the other controllers in the generator control system. The controllers each compare their generator signal with a system average and adjust the associated generator until the generators all supply equal amounts of power to the system.

  • Patent number: 7073781
Abstract: A humidifier which includes a reservoir of water in fluid communication with an evaporation chamber. Some of the water that enters the evaporation chamber vaporizes and enters the ambient environment. A remainder of the water does not evaporate and flows into a collection container in fluid communication with the reservoir. The unevaporated water is then exposed to a source of ultraviolet radiation which helps to inhibit the ability of various organisms contained therein to reproduce in the future. After irradiation, the unevaporated water travels from the collection container to the reservoir.
