  • Patent number: 5019328
Abstract: A natural circulation type boiling light-water reactor comprises a pressure vessel, a reactor core disposed within said pressure vessel to heat light water so as to generate main steam, a steam outlet provided in a wall of said pressure vessel for drawing out the main steam therethrough to supply the same to a turbine system, and a steam path along which the main steam flows from the reactor core to the steam outlet. The reactor further comprises a steam guide for prolonging the steam path and/or a radially increased chimney for reducing the velocity of the main steam flowing through the steam path. These causes radioactive isotope .sup.16 N contained in the main steam to flow within the pressure vessel for a time period exceeding its own half-life, so that the inventory of .sup.16 N in the main steam directed towards the turbine system is reduced remarkably. In consequence, shield structures for piping and turbine systems can be reduced in size and weight.

  • Patent number: 4940564
Abstract: In a boiling water-type, nuclear power plant, deposition of radioactive substances on the surfaces of out-of-core components in the primary cooling water system in the nuclear power plant is suppressed by injecting an alkaline element into reactor water in the presence of more than an amount of the oxygen formed by nuclear fission of the reactor water and dissolved in the reactor water, particularly without hydrogen gas injection, during the nuclear heatup operation period of a boiling water type, nuclear power plant and circulating the injected alkaline element through the primary cooling water system of a nuclear reactor, thereby forming an oxide film on the surfaces of out-of-core components in the primary cooling water system of the nuclear reactor. Exposure of plant personnel to radioactivity can be reduced thereby. The present boiling water-type, nuclear power plant is provided with a means for forming such oxide film.

  • Patent number: 4928107
Abstract: In a user's device of a GPS, the calculation of GDOP values for determining satellites to be used for the positioning is initiated periodically with a predetermined operation period. Once they are determined in a certain operation period, the processing for the positioning is repeatedly executed on the basis of signals from the determined satellites through the operation period, until satellites to be used are determined in a succeeding operation period. Plural times of the positioning can be executed for every time of the calculation of a GDOP value. If, therefore, a frequency of executing the positioning are made almost as equal as conventionally, a frequency of carrying out the time-consuming calculation of GDOP values is decreased, whereby the load of a microprocessor in the user's device can be remarkably reduced.

  • Patent number: 4924373
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for controlling switching elements (51-56) of a PWM-controlled value type inverter by a software program using a microcomputer (10). The control apparatus of the present invention produces a switching element control signal (an on/off signal) according to the following steps. When a control command value commanding the output of the inverter is determined, a control mode corresponding to the commanded output value is selected from among a plurality of control modes (M1-M6) previously contained in a table to determine the switching elements to which the control signal is applied and the order of controlling the switching elements. Further, on the basis of the control command value, the difference between a modulation signal and a predetermined reference value is computed for each phase to determine the timing of controlling the switching elements.

  • Patent number: 4894768
Abstract: When a microprocessor fetches an instruction to be processed by a coprocessor, it sends to the coprocessor a command corresponding to the instruction while informing the coprocessor that the bus cycle is in the mode of transfer of the instruction to the coprocessor. In transferring an operand from the memory to the coprocessor, the microprocessor asserts, in addition to a usual memory read signal, a signal (CYCYCL) indicative of validity of the coprocessor and instructs the coprocessor to fetch data to thereby complete the operand transfer from memory to coprocessor within one bus cycle. In transferring data from the coprocessor to the memory, the microprocessor asserts, in addition to a usual memory write signal, the CYCYCL signal and instructs the coprocessor to deliver the data to thereby complete the data transfer from memory to coprocessor within one bus cycle.

  • Patent number: 4888721
Abstract: A function arithmetic unit which performs elementary operations at high speeds and which enables required memory capacity to be reduced. The function arithmetic unit includes a constant memory which stores a constant that corresponds to the number of successive iterative operations; a controller which causes addition or subtraction in the successive iterative operations; and arithmetic units which receive, as initial values, an argument of an elementary function value to be found and two constants determined depending upon the elementary functions to be found, and which subject these initial values to n iterative operations to produce elementary function values. A further arithmetic unit subjects the elementary function values to multiplication, addition, subtraction, or division, or a combination thereof, thereby to produce the thus obtained value.
