  • Patent number: 7343667
Abstract: A side-by-side read/write head includes a self-aligned trailing shield, where a rear edge of the trailing shield is defined by the same lithography/etching process used to define a rear edge of a read sensor. A plurality of read sensor layers and a pole tip structure adjacent the read sensor layers are formed over a wafer. A non-magnetic layer is deposited over the pole tip structure. A patterned resist is then formed over both the read sensor layers and the non-magnetic layer. With the patterned resist in place, read sensor materials of the read sensor layers are etched away so as to define the rear edge of the read sensor. Non-magnetic materials of the non-magnetic layer are simultaneously etched away so as to form an etched region which defines the rear edge for the trailing shield.

  • Patent number: 7346273
Abstract: It is an object of the invention to provide a substrate processing equipment that can predict a temperature of a substrate and easily control temperature of the substrate. Formed in a reactor (processing chamber) 3 are four temperature adjustment zones, of which setting and adjustment of temperature can be made by zone heaters 340-1 to 340-4. A temperature controller 4 mixes temperatures detected by inner thermocouples 302-1 to 302-4 and outer thermocouples 342-1 to 342-4 to calculate predicted temperatures of substrates by means of the first-order lag calculation on the basis of time constants of temperatures of substrates heated by the zone heaters 340-1 to 340-4. Also, the temperature controller 4 calculates electric power values (operating variables) for the zone heaters 340-1 to 340-4 with the use of predicted temperatures of substrates to output the same to the zone heaters 340-1 to 340-4.

  • Publication number: 20080062555
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a magnetic disk device including a spindle motor using a fluid dynamic bearing, which can send back READY within a period requested by a host system at the time of starting a magnetic disk device under low temperature and low supply voltage conditions without particular heating means. According to one embodiment, the magnetic disk device sets a waiting time in a period from when a spindle motor reaches a rated speed until when an HSA is loaded to a magnetic disk at the time of starting under low temperature and low supply voltage conditions within such a range that the timeout of the host does not occur, and the spindle motor itself is heated by rotation of the spindle motor in the waiting time to lower viscosity of the lubrication fluid to ensure sufficient voltage margin for an SPM driver.

  • Publication number: 20080061726
Abstract: A control technology for a synchronous motor for suppressing rotational pulsation caused by variation in individuals without making a control algorithm complex is provided. In a motor drive system which is a control device for a synchronous motor, in order to suppress the pulsation component of N times as high as the AC frequency for driving the synchronous motor, a controller in which the phase property of the disturbance response of the controller with respect to the pulsation frequency is within ±45° is arranged. Therefore, the torque pulsation component generated from distortion in induction voltage or variation between phases is suppressed.

  • Publication number: 20080061384
Abstract: Diffusion layers 2-5 are formed on a silicon substrate 1, and gate dielectric films 6, 7 and gate electrodes 8, 9 are formed on these diffusion layers 2-5 so as to be MOS transistors. Zirconium oxide or hafnium oxide is used as a major component of gate dielectric films 6, 7. Gate dielectric films 6, 7 are formed, for example, by CVD. As substrate 1, there is used one of which the surface is (111) crystal face so as to prevent diffusion of oxygen into silicon substrate 1 or gate electrodes 8, 9. In case of using a substrate of which the surface is (111) crystal face, diffusion coefficient of oxygen is less than 1/100 of the case in which a silicon substrate of which the surface is (001) crystal face is used, and oxygen diffusion is controlled. Thus, oxygen diffusion is controlled, generation of leakage current is prevented and properties are improved. There is realized a semiconductor device having high reliability and capable of preventing deterioration of characteristics concomitant to miniaturization.

  • Publication number: 20080062547
Abstract: A solution to the problem of long, e-beam mastering times needed for patterning masters for patterned magnetic disk media is disclosed. A process for fabrication of masters takes advantage of the circular symmetry of magnetic disks and reduces the total required mastering time by an order of magnitude over prior art processes. This process relies on e-beam mastering of one small arcuate portion of the master, and then replicating that portion around a circular path on the master several times to create a full disk master. The architecture of this design also corrects for errors in head positioning on the final patterned media disk that may be introduced by the mastering process.

  • Publication number: 20080065848
Abstract: A remote copy network realizes low-cost multi-hop remote copying. Remote copying is executed via a remote copy network (RCN) having a source edge device connected to a source storage and a target edge device connected to a target storage. Because the RCN is a network provided by a network business, a user having a storage device can execute remote copying without owning or managing the RCN. The source edge device receives remote copy I/O from the source storage, creates a log entry to which a sequential number is added, and sends the log entry to a target edge device. The target edge device acquires the remote copy I/O from the received log entry, and sends the remote copy I/O to the target storage in the order of the sequential number.
