Abstract: A writing implement or the like is provided with a deformable grip for shape conformance in accordance with anatomical contours of the individual user, thereby providing enhanced user comfort with minimum fatigue during use. The deformable grip is located on the body of a writing implement in a position for grasping with the user's fingertips during normal use of the writing implement. The deformable grip is adapted to undergo substantial localized deformation in response to light manual pressure applied by the user's fingertips to conform geometrically with the shape of the user's fingertips in a custom fit manner, thereby providing a highly comfortable grip with a unique, novelty feel. The deformable grip is further adapted for retention of the deformed geometry for at least a substantial period of time, for example, at least about five seconds or more.

Abstract: A process for making a rigid composite structure with a thermoplastic polymer surface by:a. thermoforming a thermoplastic polymeric sheet into a three dimensional structure; the sheet has primary glass transition temperature that is at least 10.degree. C. greater than the molding temperature of step c. below;b. placing the thermoformed structure and a charge of sheet molding compound (SMC) in a mold andc. heating the charge and thermoformed structure under pressure in the mold to cure the SMC and to adhere the SMC to the thermoformed structure, where the molding temperature is at least 10.degree. C. below the primary glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic polymeric sheet;the resulting composite structure which can be finished with a paint or a layer of clear coat and color coat also is part of the invention.

Abstract: N-[2-(2-oxo-1-imidazolidinyl)ethyl]-3-phenylurea and analogs are useful for protecting against oxygen-derived free radical damage in mammals, by inducing endogenous antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase, in mammals.
Abstract: A elastic fibers are formed from spandex polymer that is prepared by reacting a glycol prepared from a tetrahydrofuran/3-methyltetrahydrofuran copolymer with a diisocyanate and then chain extending the thusly capped glycol with a particular mixture of diamines. The fibers have a highly desirable combination of power, hot-wet creep and heat-set efficiency and can be prepared at high spinning and windup speeds.

Abstract: A yarn string-up gun is modified to include an entangling jet and a cut-down device eliminating the need to provide entangling jets for joining yarns on each yarn-spinning machine position for intermittent use.
Abstract: Tetrafluoroethylene copolymer compositions containing conductive carbon black, graphite fiber or thermally conductive fillers have significantly increased conductivity when the tetrafluoroethylene copolymer has been treated with a fluorinating agent.
Abstract: Amorphous copolymers of perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole with at least one fluoro comonomer selected from one or more of ten defined classes having a recited minimum mole proportion of perfluoro-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxole, in no event less than 65%, have high glass transition temperatures of 140.degree. C. or higher, low indices of refraction, and good physical properties, and low dielectric constants, which make them suitable for cladding optical fibers as well as for many electronics applications, including the manufacture of substrates for circuit boards. They all are soluble at room temperature in perfluoro(2-butyltetrahydrofuran), which makes it practical to apply them as coatings from solution.
Abstract: High modulus, high tenacity fibers of poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide (PPD-T) are disclosed along with a fiber heat treating process for increasing the inherent viscosity and the crystallinity index of the PPD-T. Abstract: A drop weight for a tubular writing instrument has a drop weight body consisting of an upper and lower part (20; 22). The lower part (22) has a front support surface for supporting the drop weight body in its front position inside the tubular writing instrument, and the cleaning wire (21) is fixed to the bottom of the upper part (20). The two parts (20, 22) can be axially moved in relation to each other, by means of which the distance between the front support surface and the front end of the cleaning wire (21) can be altered. In this way the projection of the cleaning wire (21) beyond the end of the writing tube (11) can be adjusted. Further, to set the projection of a cleaning wire (103), provided at the front end of a drop weight body (115), beyond the front end of the writing tube (102) of a tubular writing instrument, a bush element (116) having a shoulder area (117), is clampingly fastened on the drop weight body (115 ).

Abstract: Sulfate reducing bacteria are detected by preparing a lysate so as to release an enzyme essential to derive energy by reduction of sulfate such as adenosine 5'-phosphosulfate reductase (APS reductase), containing the lysate with an antibody for the enzyme, and detecting the presence of the reaction product of the enzyme and the antibody. In one aspect, sulfate reducing bacteria are controlled responsive to such assay. In another aspect, a "test kit" is provided for carrying out the assay.
