Abstract: An apparatus for closing a chute includes a chute for dispensing a granular material. A gate assembly is mounted for controllably opening and closing the chute and includes a bridge member with a curved gate attached to it. The gate assembly is movable between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the gate permits granular material to be dispensed through the chute and in the second position, the gate co-acts with a sealing member and the chute to prevent material from passing through the chute. In a highly preferred embodiment, the sealing member comprises a plurality of inwardly projecting curved ridges formed on the interior of the chute.

Abstract: An electrode for measuring the activity of ionic species. The electrode comprises a material which is chemically sensitive to at least one ionic species. The material comprises an insulating component and a conductive component of lower resistivity than the insulating component. The insulating component has a density of proton binding sites sufficiently large to be sensitive to the ionic species. The conductive component comprises particles, the size of which are sufficiently small to modify the bulk conductive properties such that the susceptibility of the particles to redox interference in the operation of the electrode is decreased, while maintaining sufficient conductivity to operate in Faradaic electrode configurations. Illustratively, the insulating component is tantalum oxide, zirconium oxide or aluminum oxide and the conductive component is iridium, platinum, ruthenium, palladium, rhodium or osmium oxide.
Abstract: An improved one-piece protective coveralls of the type affording a barrier and thermal protection against hot and/or corrosive liquids. The coveralls include a generally continuous outer shell of woven aramid fabric covered by a liquid impervious layer and a corresponding inner multilayer thermally insulating liner inside of the outer shell. The inner liner is fabricated from at least one layer of low density nonwoven fabric fastened to a woven fabric. The improved coveralls include an elongate underarm opening under each arm of the liner extending downwardly from the position of the wearer's armpit into and along the underside of the sleeve and downwardly into and along the side of the torso portion. An elongated leg inseam opening is provided on the underside of the torso portion of said liner fabric and which extends from position of the wearer's crotch downwardly into and along the inside of each leg.

Abstract: New blends of fluorinated thermoplastic elastomers are disclosed that contain a two-phase composition including a continuous phase of a melt processible crystalline thermoplastic fluorocarbon resin and a dispersed phase of an amorphous crosslinked fluoroelastomer, and a dispersion-process-produced, non-fibrillating, non-melt-processible polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powder. The PTFE copolymer is made up of recurring units of hexafluoropropylene, perfluoro(alkyl vinyl ether) wherein the alkyl group has 1-4 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof. The PTFE compounds uniformly with the two-phase composition without forming visible agglomerates. Poly(phenylene sulfide) powder can be added to the blend to increase melt flow characteristics. Additionally, an uncured fluoroelastomer can be incorporated into the blend to enhance its mechanical properties.
