Abstract: A yarn heating element wherein fixed elongated core having a heater therein serves as a support for a sleeve rotatably mounted to and telescoped over the core. The space between the core and sleeve can be varied along their lengths for controlling heat radiated from the core to the shell to control the temperature profile along the length of the shell. Varying the winding density of the heater can serve the same purpose.

Abstract: An alkali-free composition for making a ceramic dielectric body having a dielectric constant less than 5.0, which is a mixture of finely divided particles consisting essentially of 70-85% wt. silica and 15-30% wt. zinc borate flux. This composition can be used to make green tape and multilayer devices having internal copper conductors such as multilayer capacitors and multilayer interconnects.
Abstract: This invention relates to herbicidally active sulfonylurea compounds, agriculturally suitable compositions thereof and their method of use as herbicides or plant growth regulants.
Abstract: This invention relates to novel herbicidally active sulfonylurea compounds substituted in the positions ortho to the sulfonylurea bridge, agriculturally suitable compositions thereof and methods of their use as preemergent or postemergent herbicides or plant growth regulants.
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus and a process involving fluid jet devices for intermingling filaments of a continuous filament yarn or yarns, including combining a plurality of yarns to produce a larger coherent yarn. More particularly, the invention relates to fluid jets having a passageway through which yarn moves, where the yarn is positioned and maintained along one wall as it passes through the passageway and where the fluid-directing orifice in the jet is offset with respect to the passageway in the direction of the wall. The apparatus and the process are useful in producing heather yarns with superior yarn blending and along-end uniformity.
Abstract: A process for distinguishing nucleic acid segments on the basis of nucleotide differences, thereby providing a rapid, convenient means for detecting mutation, is disclosed. The present process comprises synthesizing separately complementary nucleic acid strands on each of at least two target nucleic acid templates using a nucleic acid polymerase and nucleoside triphosphate substrates, wherein at least one of the natural nucleoside triphosphate substrates is replaced with a mobility-shifting analog; denaturing the synthesized strands from the templates if necessary; and comparing the mobility of the separately synthesized strands through a size-fractionation medium. A difference in mobility indicates that the target nucleic acid templates contain different numbers of total nucleotides and/or different numbers of nucleotides complementary to the mobility-shifting analogs.
Abstract: A hand-held or portable diathermy apparatus is disclosed comprising a housing, a battery power supply preferably within the housing, and at least one electrode carried by the housing. The apparatus includes a radio frequency power generator for generating an oscillatory current ranging between about 1 kilohertz and about 20 megahertz, and supplying this oscillatory current to the electrodes. A manually operated switch is carried by the housing for selective energization of the radio frequency generator whereby, upon energization thereof, the apparatus is capable of being cycled several times outputting up to about 20 watts of power for up to 20 seconds or more on each cycle.

Abstract: A contact-free operating electronic switchgear, having an oscillator capable of being externally affected, a switching amplifier with at least two operating units disposed downstream of the oscillator, an electronic switch, which can be controlled by the oscillator via the switching amplifier, and a supply circuit for the provision of the supply voltage for the oscillator and for the switching amplifier, is shown and described. In electronic switchgear operating contact-free in accordance with the invention the maximum switching frequency is considerably increased in that a control circuit is provided between the two operating units of the switching amplifier and the oscillator and that the oscillator is controlled by means of the control circuit in such a way that the oscillator also oscillates in the affected state.
Abstract: An elastic quilted composite fabric is provided. The quilted fabric has at least one gathered fibrous layer and at least one elastic fabric layer. The elastic fabric layer preferably includes 1/2 to 10% by weight of spandex fibers and is a stitch-bonded fabric whose elastic characteristics are not activated until after the various layers of the composite fabric have been quilted together.
Abstract: New modified non-melt-fabricable polytetrafluoroethylene resins have now been found which can be compounded with elastomers or plastics without the deleterious agglomeration or fibrillation that occurs with known modified non-melt-fabricable polytetrafluoroethylene resins. The resins are made of recurring units of tetrafluoroethylene, and recurring units of at least one comonomer selected from hexafluoropropylene or perfluoro (alkyl vinyl ether) wherein the alkyl group is of 1-4 carbon atoms, said comonomer present in amounts sufficient to produce the effect recited in the first sentence.
Abstract: A hydraulic control system for a transmission including a speed transmission assembly, a range transmission assembly, and a hydraulically actuated master clutch for selectively coupling the transmission assemblies. The speed transmission assembly includes a plurality of hydraulically actuated clutch assemblies for effecting different forward output speeds and at least one reverse output speed. The range transmission assembly also includes a plurality of hydraulically actuated clutch assemblies. The control system includes a valve body connected to a hydraulic source of fluid pressure. A plurality of control valves are positioned in the valve body by an operator controlled shift lever. The control valves direct fluid pressure to various clutch assemblies in the speed and range transmission assemblies to condition the transmission into a forward, reverse, or neutral mode of operation as a function of shift lever position.
Abstract: The invention relates to certain herbicidal sulfonamides, agriculturally suitable compositions thereof and a method for their use as a general or selective preemergent or postemergent herbicide or as a plant growth regulant.
Abstract: A method for measuring the inherent viscosity of individual solute components in a multicomponent sample in solution with a solvent comprising for each component (1) measuring pressure differences for solvent and for solvent with solute component, as a function of time across two capillary tubes in fluid communication (2) measuring concentrations of component as a function of time, and (3) obtaining inherent viscosity by means of a described mathematical relationship.
Abstract: Laminates of polyvinyl fluoride and at least one other fluoropolymer that are free from adhesive at the interface and a process for preparing the laminates by dispersion coating a first film to form a second film and curing the second film at a temperature below the melting point of the first film.

Abstract: An apparatus for counting hangers having a convex surface includes a housing having a central light source carried by the housing for projecting a light beam on the convex surface. A pair of spaced light detectors is positioned on the housing substantially on opposed sides of the central light source, the spaced light detectors detect light reflected from the convex surface. A detecting circuit is connected to the pair of spaced light detectors and detects the sequence of reflected light beams, and then determines whether the detected sequence is a sequence of reflected light beams characteristic of the relative displacement of the housing and the convex surface when the housing or the convex surface is displaced in substantially the direction of the space between the pair of opposed light detectors.
