Abstract: A vehicle comprising at least one pressure-drag-reducing apparatus (1) for reducing the pressure drag on the vehicle. The apparatus comprises: a housing (31) at least partly defining a cavity (34) and an aperture (35) in the housing (31), the cavity (34) in fluid communication via the aperture (35) with the environment surrounding the vehicle; and oscillating means (32, 36) for creating an oscillation in pressure across the aperture between the cavity and the environment. The cavity volume, the frequency of oscillation, the aperture size and the amplitude of oscillation are arranged to cause fluid to be alternately drawn into, and ejected from, the cavity through the aperture. The apparatus is positioned relative to the remainder of the vehicle such that the ejected fluid entrains fluid from the environment to reduce pressure drag on the vehicle.

Abstract: A system and method for transmitting signals via multi-input single-output (MISO) broadcast channel with imperfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). The transmitter receives each CSI of from the plural receivers, determines a transmit power and a transmission rate based on the CSI qualities of the plural receivers calculated from the each CSI, and transmits the signal using the transmit power and the transmission rate. The signal comprises a user specific message, a first common message and a second common message to compensate imperfect CSIT.

The apparatus comprises means for determining the sensed-paced difference of the pacemaker in the individual: first testing means for determining the optimum AV delay while the pacemaker is atrially pacing at a raised at a heart rate; and calculation means for calculating the optimum AV delay determined by the first testing means minus the sensed-paced difference.
Abstract: A steerable probe comprises a body and drive means arranged to drive the probe through a sample. The body comprises at least three body sections extending parallel to each other along the probe and each movable relative to the others along the probe. The drive means is arranged to move each of the body sections in turn relative to the others thereby to drive the probe through the sample.

Abstract: A flow control device for a turbocharger, the flow control device comprising a variably restricting flow restrictor for restricting flow in a turbocharger inlet by a variable amount, the flow control device being arranged such that the flow restrictor position varies flow restriction in response to force acting on a surface of the flow restrictor caused by a pressure pulse in a flow direction, the flow restrictor being biased in a direction opposed to the flow direction.
Abstract: The invention relates to the inhibition of blood coagulation, especially during organ rejection, and in particular the inhibition of delayed vascular rejection. The invention provides anticoagulant proteins which are anchored to cell membranes. The anticoagulant function is preferably provided by heparin, antithrombin, hirudin, TFPI, tick anticoagulant peptide, or a snake venom factor. These anticoagulant proteins are preferably prevented from being constitutively expressed at the cell surface. In particular, expression at the cell surface is regulated according to cell activation, for instance by targeting the protein to a suitable secretory granule. Expression of these proteins renders cells, tissues and organs less vulnerable to rejection after transplantation (e.g. after xenotransplantation).

Abstract: Among the fewer than 10 proteins primarily secreted by the species Lactobacillus plantarum, there is one of 30 kDa that contains an internal fragment without cleavage sites for the most important intestinal proteases and characterized by having a serine and threonine content of at least 50%. The genetic information encoded in this fragment, designated ST peptide, has been used for producing and purifying the peptide, thus making it possible to conduct various tests in vitro. To summarize, the ST peptide is considered to promote the process of immunologic ignorance of our gastrointestinal immune system toward the commensal bacteria of our gastrointestinal tract, thus favoring the mechanisms of oral tolerance. Therefore the ST peptide could be used in immunotherapy, especially in the context of certain autoimmune diseases and certain inflammatory diseases.
