Abstract: The present invention relates to bioactive glass coatings. In particular, the present invention relates to bioactive glass coatings for Ti6Al4V alloys and chrome cobalt alloys, wherein the thermal expansion coefficient of the glass coating is matched to that of the alloy. Such coatings have a particular application in the field of medical prosthetics. The bioactive glass comprises (in mol %) 35-53 SiO2; 2-11 Na20; at least 2% of each of CaO, MgO and K20; 0-15 ZnO; 0-2 B202 and 0-9 P205.

  • Patent number: 7868247
Abstract: A method of forming a photovoltaic device includes a plurality of quantum wells and a plurality of barriers. The quantum wells and barriers are disposed on an underlying layer. The barriers alternate with the quantum wells. One of the plurality of quantum wells and the plurality of barriers is comprised of tensile strained layers and the other of the plurality of quantum wells and the plurality of barriers is comprised of compressively strained layers. The tensile and compressively strained layers have elastic properties. The method includes selecting compositions and thicknesses of the barriers and quantum wells taking into account the elastic properties such that each period of one tensile strained layer and one compressively strained layer exerts substantially no shear force on a neighboring structure; providing the underlying layer; and forming the quantum sells and barriers on the underlying layer according to the derived compositions and thicknesses.

  • Publication number: 20100226533
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of identifying a target object in an image using image processing. It further relates to apparatus and computer software implementing the method. The method includes storing template data representing a template orientation field indicative of an orientation of each of a plurality of features of a template object; receiving image data representing the image; processing the image data to generate an image orientation field indicating an orientation corresponding to the plurality of image features; processing the image orientation field using the template orientation field to generate a match metric indicative of an extent of matching between at least part of the template orientation field and at least part of the image orientation field; and using the match metric to determine whether or not the target object has been identified in the image. Image and/or template confidence data is used to generate the match metric.
