Abstract: An e-mail filter may be associated with a schedule defining a recurrent active time period. As such, some e-mail filters may be active at specific times of day and on specific days of the week and inactive the rest of the time. Before applying any filters, the current time is determined and it is determined which filters are active. The determination of which filters are active is based on the current time being within the active time period.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating an audio notification file for a computing device are provided. A first audio file associated with a first mental state is selected as a first section of the audio notification file. The audio notification file enabled for storage in a memory. The audio notification file is further enabled for processing by a processing unit to control a speaker. A final state of the audio notification file is determined, the final state designated as a final section of the audio notification file, the final state associated with a second mental state. At least one intermediate section of the audio notification file is generated, between the first section and the second section, by morphing the first audio file to the final state by processing the first audio file using a digital signal processor.

Abstract: A method for encoding an input sequence of symbols to produce a bitstream and a method of decoding the bitstream to generate a reconstructed binary sequence. Encoding employs an encoding tree having primary codewords associated with leaf nodes and secondary codewords associated with internal nodes. A flush event may cause output of secondary codewords. A context model is used to select an encoding tree corresponding to an estimated probability at the encoder. The same context model is used by the decoder to select a decoding tree. The decoder interleaves bits from decoded bit sequences associated with different estimated probabilities based on the context model.
Abstract: A public key for an Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem is generated in a manner that acts as a countermeasure to power analysis attacks. In particular, a known scalar multiplication method is enhanced by, in one aspect, performing a right shift on the private key. The fixed-sequence window method includes creation and handling of a translated private key. Conveniently, as a result of the right shift, the handling of the translated private key is made easier and more efficient.
Abstract: Instant messaging clients transmit, to a server, presence information indicating that the respective client is in a communicative state in which the client is receptive to communicating with the other clients. A server determines, for each client, that the respective client is in a communicative state if presence information was received from the client over a preceding predetermined time period, and that the client is in an unknown state if presence information was not received from the client over the preceding predetermined time period. The communicative state and the unknown state are possible presence states of the clients. Abstract: A scheme for redirecting e-mail messages and message attachments from a mail system to a mobile data communication device. Abstract: A keypad suitable for use with a mobile communication or a handheld device. The keypad includes an actuator component formed from multiple materials and comprises a plurality of actuators, a sealing bead and/or a light guide. The sealing bead is formed from a flexible or compressible material such as silicone rubber. When the keypad is installed the sealing bead is compressed against the mounting surface in the device and provides a seal for the keypad against environmental agents such as moisture, dust and/or electrostatic discharges.

Abstract: A method for determining an identifier of a wireless network to which a mobile device can connect. For at least one wireless network, an identifier and at least one address for component(s) in that network is stored on the mobile device. An address of a component in an available network is received. If the address of the component is received without an identifier for the network, the received address is compared with at least one stored address. If the received address matches one of the at least one stored address, the identifier stored in association with that address is obtained. Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communication of a data block communicated in an OFDM-based, communication system. Side-information required to be transmitted by many PAPR reduction schemes in OFDM is carried and transmitted by sending orthogonal binary sequences superimposed on the OFDM data sequence carrying the information to be transmitted. In one embodiment, a selected scrambling sequence is multiplied with an input data block to yield a desired Peak-To-Average Power Ratio. An identification sequence one-to-one corresponding to the scrambling sequence is superimposed on the resultant sequence and transmitted together. In the receiving station, the identification sequence is determined through correlation operations. This also determines the scrambling sequence. The effects of both sequences are finally removed from the information-carrying data sequence.
Abstract: An apparatus and an associated method for facilitating selection of CODEC availability from amongst a set of CODECs at a communication device. A battery power measurer measures the stored energy level of a battery power supply that powers a communication device of which the CODEC forms a portion. A selector selects the available CODECs responsive to the measured power level. If the measured level is less than a threshold, then high-sampling-rate CODECs are at least selectably made unavailable for use. If the battery level is higher than the threshold, then the high-sampling-rate CODECs are made available for use. If the level is greater than a threshold then both a high sampling-rate and the low sampling-rate CODEC are available. An indication generator generates an indication of selection made by the selector.
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for handling a call received at a mobile communication device, in association with an automated number identification (ANI) number are provided. The ANI number is compared with a list of ANI numbers associated with an applications server, the list stored at the mobile communications device. When the ANI number is not in the list, a tone is provided on the call. When a corresponding tone is detected on the call in response to the tone, the call is handled as a call associated with the applications server and otherwise the call handled as a typical mobile communication call.
