Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating synchronization of databases connected by way of a radio air interface. Changes to a data record embodied at the network part are detected by a detector. A mapping is performed by a mapper, and a synchronization request is generated by a synchronization request generator. The synchronization request is filtered by a filter, and converted into form to permit its efficient communication upon the radio air interface to a mobile node pursuant to a synchronization session.

Abstract: A selective decision-feedback detector for the space-time block code which provides both diversity and spatial multiplexing. To detect a received code block of transmitted symbols, the channel matrix is properly preprocessed with the real and imaginary parts decoupled, and the selective decision-feedback detector makes multiple decisions on the same block upon differently permuted channel matrix and generates multiple candidates for the results. The indicators of the decision errors associated with the candidates are compared, and one of the candidates with the minimum error is selected by a selector as the decided symbols to be used for further processing at a receiving station.

Abstract: A mobile communication device is adapted to provide voice communications with use of a voice service and data communications with use of a data service. The mobile device maintains a preferred network list as well as a service access list in its memory. The preferred network list has a listing of a plurality of networks with assigned priorities for network selection. The service access list has a listing of a plurality of networks that make the data service available to the mobile device. The mobile device performs a scanning operation for identifying one or more communication networks available in a coverage area of the mobile device. When a home network of the mobile device is unavailable in the coverage area, the mobile device consults the preferred network list and the service access list for identifying one of the networks identified by the scanning operation.

Abstract: A holder for a handless wireless communication device has triggering means at more than one location interacting with detecting means in the handheld wireless communication device for the handheld wireless communication device to detect whether or not it is present in the holder in any one of several possible orientations therein. The location of each of the triggering means corresponds to a different one of the possible orientations. In a more specific aspect of the invention, magnets are installed in the holder at more than one location, each location corresponding to a location sufficiently close to the detecting means, for example a proximity switch, in one of several orientations of the device in the holder.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for user data traffic handling for an EVDO enabled hybrid mode mobile device, the method having the steps of: blocking a system selection at the mobile device until no EVDO traffic state exists, the blocking step includes either monitoring whether a user changes a scan mode on the mobile device; and if the user changes the scan mode, checking whether the mobile device is in an EVDO traffic state; and if yes delaying a system selection until the EVDO traffic state is ended, or monitoring whether a user is in an EVDO traffic state, and if yes, preventing a user from accessing a scan mode menu on the mobile device.
Abstract: An adapter for providing a source of power to a mobile device through an industry standard port is provided. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the adapter comprises a plug unit, a power converter, a primary connector, and an identification subsystem. The plug unit is operative to couple the adapter to a power socket and operative to receive energy from the power socket. The power converter is electrically coupled to the plug unit and is operable to regulate the received energy from the power socket and to output a power requirement to the mobile device. The primary connector is electrically coupled to the power converter and is operative to couple to the mobile device and to deliver the outputted power requirement to the mobile device. The identification subsystem is electrically coupled to the primary connector and is operative to provide an identification signal.

Abstract: A user interface for a mobile device includes an input sensor having one degree of freedom operable by the user to generate a sensor signal, a screen having a two-dimensional surface showing a graphical user interface object, a processor coupled to the sensor and to the screen to actuate the graphical user interface object along the two actuated axis, and a sensor adapter software module executed by the processor to adapt the sensor signal to actuate the graphical user interface object along both actuated axis. The adapter software module selectively drives the sensor signal to actuate the graphical user interface object along the first actuated axis, to actuate the graphical user interface object along the second actuated axis, and to change actuated axis.
Abstract: Apparatus (48), and an associated method, for facilitating operation of a mobile node (12) operable in a communication system (10) to request allocation of communication capacity upon which to communicate data pursuant to a communication service. A channel allocation request generator (52) is selectably operable to generate requests for allocation of channel capacity upon which to communicate the data. A selector (54) selects when to cause the generator (52) to communicate the additional data packets. Selection is made to delay, or otherwise prevent, retransmission of requests, when a determination is made that the retransmission is unlikely to be successful.
