  • Publication number: 20090146889
Abstract: A low profile antenna has a meander length based on the full electrical wavelength of the signal being transmitted or received. The antenna can have either an open-loop structure or a closed-loop structure with a matching network. The low profile enables the antenna to be used in a card for a device such as a personal computer, personal digital assistant, wireless telephone and so on with minimal risk of the antenna breaking off, as compared with a prior art antenna having a higher height and thus more likelihood of being broken from its card.

  • Publication number: 20090150562
Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, for directing communications of a communication session to a selected communication device, or devices, of a group of commonly-registered devices. A device-direction policy is created and stored at a network entity. The policy identifies preferred devices to which communications of a communication session are to be provided. A SIP Invite, or other communication-session initiation message, is provided to the network entity. The network entity detects the message, accesses the policy, and forwards on the message in accordance with the policy.

  • Patent number: 7545767
Abstract: An apparatus and method of controlling unsolicited traffic are disclosed herein. The apparatus and method can be applied to wireless communication networks such as CDMA2000, UMTS, GPRS and the like so that traffic which is not solicited by wireless communication devices operating on those networks is not sent over the air needlessly. The present application provides techniques to block unsolicited traffic based on the identity of a user (for example based on International Mobile Station Identity (IMSI), Network Access Identifier (NAI), Mobile Station Internet Services Digital Network Number (MSISDN), Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Universal Resource Locator (url)) as opposed to techniques that are based on a session or IP address, such as a traditional firewall. In accordance to this application, user identity based techniques are applied to block unsolicited traffic whenever a user has established a data session.

  • Publication number: 20090144540
Abstract: A certificate management operation request is managed on a device, access to which is governed by an authentication certificate. Upon receiving a request to perform a certificate management operation on a certificate, a consequence of performing the certificate management operation is determined and the consequence is indicated via a user interface of the device. For example, anytime a user attempts to use a certificate management application to delete, distrust or revoke a certificate, it is determined whether the certificate meets certain criteria, such as the certificate being the authentication certificate or being in the certificate chain of the authentication certificate. If the certificate meets the criteria, the user may be notified of a lack of permission to perform the requested operation and the operation may be prevented from completing. Alternatively, the user may be permitted to confirm the instruction to perform the requested operation, and the operation may be completed.

  • Publication number: 20090143079
Abstract: A method of tracking a first wireless communications device using another computing device, such as a second wireless communications device, includes obtaining current position data for the first wireless communications device and obtaining one or more of speed data, time data, and path data for the first wireless communications device. The first wireless device then transmits the current position data and at least one of the speed data, time data and path data to the second wireless communications device or other computing device. In addition to current position data, the speed, path and time data facilitate tracking of the first wireless communications device. When a first mobile user wants a second mobile user to follow him, the first mobile user can put his device in “follow me” (tracking) mode. This is particularly useful when the first and second mobile users are traveling in respective cars or other vehicles.

  • Patent number: 7543160
Abstract: A system and method for generating a security indicator on a display of a computing device (e.g. a mobile device), to indicate when the computing device is in a secure state while locked. A determination is made (e.g. by a data protection system) as to whether at least some of the secure data stored on the computing device can be decrypted by any applications on the computing device, while the computing device is in the locked state. An icon or other identifier can be displayed to indicate that the secure state has been attained. In one embodiment, the secure state is considered to have been attained, if it is determined that all tickets that have been issued to applications on the computing device while the computing device was unlocked have been released, and any decrypted encryption keys that may be used to decrypt the secure data have been deleted.

  • Patent number: 7542764
Abstract: The application relates to wireless networks and more particularly to a method of reducing factory test time of receiver sensitivity in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless device. Under TIA/EIA/-98E, the radio frequency (RF) sensitivity of a CDMA wireless receiver is the minimum received power, measured at the mobile station antenna connector, at which the frame error rate (FER) does not exceed 0.5% with 95% confidence. In order to reduce the test time of FER test method, the relation between correlated energy (or Ec/Io) and FER is determined using simulated traffic and the correlated energy (or Ec/Io) measurement is then used as the test parameter on like models to achieve the same or superior test confidence with significantly reduced test time.

  • Patent number: 7543122
Abstract: Increasing security for a hand-held data processing device with communication functionality where such a device includes an access-ordered memory cache relating to communications carried out by the device. The hand-held data processing device has a locked state that is entered by the device receiving or initiating a trigger. On occurrence of the trigger to enter the locked state the memory cache is reordered so as to disrupt the access-ordering of the cache to obscure device traffic information and thus increase the security of the device in the locked state.
