Abstract: An insect-like jumping-flying robot is provided, which includes a flying module, a driving module and biomimetic bouncing legs. The flying module provides flying power via a propeller and a miniature model airplane motor, and front wings and rear wings provide lift, and moment required for attitude change. The driving module provides power with high power density via a brushless motor and is provided with two stages of deceleration to amplify the torque provided by the brushless motor. The first stage of deceleration is performed by a synchronous wheel set, and the second stage of deceleration is performed by a gear set. A driving push rod is used to transmit the power provided by the brushless motor to the biomimetic bouncing legs.

Abstract: An in-situ sensor system that is configured to be placed inside of an oxygen mask for a pilot. The sensor system is readily placed in a position over the exhalation valve such that it can capture data from the exhaled air of the pilot. The sensor system has an optical sensor element that can capture data real time and feed the data to a control module that can subsequently be use to generate output data for the pilot and/or ground elements.
Abstract: A dry shape memory adhesive material for adhering a target surface in the presence of fluid and for providing tunable mechanical contraction of an adhered surface. The dry shape memory adhesive material is pre-stretched and dried to provide an adhesive structure that implements a hydration-based shape memory mechanism to achieve both uniaxial and biaxial contractions of the adhered surface. According to preferred embodiments, the shape memory adhesive material includes a combination of one or more hydrophilic polymers or copolymers, one or more amine coupling group, and one or more cross linkers.
Abstract: A multi-sensor, real-time, in-process current and voltage estimation system is disclosed including sensors, affiliated hardware, and data processing algorithms that allow accurate estimation of currents and voltages from magnetic and electric field measurements, respectively. Aspects of the system may be embodied in a detector that is readily attachable to conductors of an energized system for contactless current and/or voltage sensing of the conductors without requiring the conductors to be disconnected from the energized system.

Abstract: A heterojunction anode for electrolysis is disclosed. The anode has a first conductive metal oxide (FCMO) layer, a second semiconductor layer contacting the FCMO layer, and one or more islands of a third semiconductor contacting the second semiconductor layer. The FCMO layer may be formed on a metallic base, such as titanium. The FCMO layer may include iridium, the second semiconductor layer may include titanium oxide, and the third semiconductor may include tin oxide. The anode may be manufactured using spray pyrolysis to apply each semiconductor material. The anode may be configured such that when placed in an electrolyte at least a portion of the second semiconductor layer and the islands are in direct physical contact with the electrolyte. The second semiconductor interlayer and third semiconductor islands enhance the production of reactive chlorine in chlorinated water. A water treatment system and method using the anode are also disclosed.

The therapy tool (500) provides a single DOF movement to a hand for the hand rehabilitation.

Abstract: Compositions and methods of use related to metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and/or nanoparticles are generally described. In some embodiments, methods and compositions for the catalytic upgrading of alcohols using MOFs and/or nanoparticles associated with MOFs are generally described. In some embodiments, a catalytic MOF composition is provided, wherein the MOF composition comprises a MOF compound and a plurality of metal catalytic compounds. In some embodiments, an alcohol may be exposed to the MOF composition and/or a plurality of nanoparticles associated with the MOF composition such that the alcohol is converted to a higher order alcohol. Advantageously, in some embodiments, the alcohol conversion occurs at a relatively high turnover frequency and/or with a relatively high selectivity as compared to traditional methods for converting alcohols.
