Publication number: 20240284042Abstract: Disclosed is a Processing-In-Sensor Accelerator (PISA) that provides a flexible, energy-efficient, and high-performance solution for real-time and smart image processing in AI devices. PISA implements a coarse-grained convolution operation in Binarized-Weight Neural Networks (BWNNs) leveraging a novel compute-pixel with non-volatile weight storage at the sensor side. This reduces power consumption of data conversion and transmission to an off-chip processor. A bit-wise near-sensor in-memory computing unit processes the remaining network layers. Once the object is detected, PISA switches to typical sensing mode to capture the image for a fine-grained convolution using only a near-sensor processing unit. The circuit-to-application co-simulation results on a BWNN acceleration demonstrate minor accuracy degradation on various image datasets in coarse-grained evaluation compared to baseline BWNN models. PISA achieves a frame rate of 1000 and efficiency of 1.74 TOp/s/W.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2024Publication date: August 22, 2024Applicants: New Jersey Institute of Technology, Board of Regents of the University of NebraskaInventors: Shaahin Angizi, Arman Roohi

Publication number: 20240280751Abstract: The invention discloses a subwavelength grating based on bounds state in the continuum as the optical antenna for optical phased array, which includes a substrate and a grating layer atop the substrate. The grating layer includes a strip waveguide and sub-gratings symmetrically arranged on both sides of the strip waveguide. The sub-gratings may also be placed on different layers to build a multi-layer grating. The sub-grating excites the radiation modes, and destructive interference is formed between the sideward radiation modes by adjusting the width of the strip waveguide, which is used to establish the bounds state in the continuum. By designing the grating structure and adjusting the width of the strip waveguide, the invention establishes a diffraction-limited bound state in the continuum between sub-gratings to suppress sideward emission, thereby suppressing crosstalk between gratings, reducing the antenna pitch of the optical phased array, and increasing the phase-tuned beam steering range.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2024Publication date: August 22, 2024Applicant: Harbin Institute of Technology, ShenzhenInventors: Xiaochuan Xu, Weiming Yao, Wanchang Gao, Haoshuai Mou, Yong Yao

Publication number: 20240275494Abstract: Quantum teleportation is essential for many quantum information technologies, including long-distance quantum networks. Using fiber-coupled devices, including state-of-the-art low-noise superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors and off-the-shelf optics, we achieve conditional quantum teleportation of time-bin qubits at the telecommunication wavelength of 1536.5 nm. We measure teleportation fidelities of ?9% that are consistent with an analytical model of our system, which includes realistic imperfections. To demonstrate the compatibility of our setup with deployed quantum networks, we teleport qubits over 22 km of single-mode fiber while transmitting qubits over an additional 22 km of fiber. Our systems, which are compatible with emerging solid-state quantum devices, provide a realistic foundation for a high-fidelity quantum Internet with practical devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2022Publication date: August 15, 2024Applicants: California Institute of Technology, California Institute of TechnologyInventors: Maria Spiropulu, Venkata Ramana Raju Valivarthi
