  • Patent number: 9540319
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved method for purifying a sulfonated aromatic monomer. The method is an economical method capable of providing a highly pure sulfonated aromatic monomer, in which a salt precipitation step and a recrystallization step are simplified while maintaining the reaction conditions used in a conventional method for synthesizing the sulfonated aromatic monomer, and a purification process is carried out using an easily available and stable chemical substance. The sulfonated aromatic monomer obtained by the purification method will be useful for the preparation of a polymer for a polymer electrolyte membrane and will be advantageous to synthesize polymer with high molecular weight.

  • Patent number: 9539561
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for directly producing lactide by subjecting lactic acid to a dehydration reaction in the presence of a catalyst comprising a tin compound, preferably, a tin (IV) compound, wherein lactide can be produced directly or by one step from lactic acid, without going through the step of producing or separating lactic acid oligomer. The method of the present invention has advantages of causing no loss of lactic acid, having a high conversion ratio to lactic acid and a high selectivity to optically pure lactide, and maintaining a long life time of the catalyst. Further, since lactic acid oligomer is not or hardly generated and the selectivity of meso-lactide is low, the method also has an advantage that the cost for removing or purifying this can be saved.

  • Patent number: 9544167
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for monitoring wideband GHz spectrum for wireless communication, and sensing and decoding respective frequency components of a time-varying signal corresponding to the monitored spectrum. Concepts relating to sparse Fast Fourier Transform (sFFT) techniques facilitate identification of one or more frequency components of a sparsely occupied spectrum by sub-sampling the signal corresponding to the monitored spectrum at a sampling rate below the Nyquist criterion. The disclosed methods and apparatus may be implemented using conventional relatively low-power wireless receivers and using off-the-shelf relatively inexpensive low-speed and low-power analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) typically employed in WiFi devices or cellular phones, in tandem with unique processing techniques based on sFFTs and sub-Nyquist criterion sampling, and have demonstrated efficacy even in scenarios where the monitored spectrum is not sparse.

  • Patent number: 9541363
Abstract: A series of small explosive charges are used to preferentially crack the casing of a warhead to provide for a controlled fragmentation of the warhead. During detonation of the warhead's explosive fill, the casing will break early in the process along predetermined lines resulting in very large fragments that are projected toward the ground and away from innocent civilians. A fragmentation control collar which contacts these charges can be fitted on the outside of existing warheads. An annular liner within the warhead aids in the controlled fragmentation.
