  • Patent number: 9734473
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are generally directed to methods, mediums, and systems for correcting censored or constrained historical data with various possible types of computing devices, including cloud-based devices, personal computing devices, and edge-based devices. The corrected data may be used in forecasting, for example to forecast demand for a limited resource. In some embodiments, the data is modeled at a higher level of granularity than an individual record. The aggregated demand may then be pro-rated over a group of categories or users where a given category of users that might be small or nonexistent over a certain time frame may be better accommodated. Moreover, it may be easier or more efficient to make assumptions and employ computing resources at the aggregate level.

  • Patent number: 9730486
Abstract: An impact absorbing footwear device employs opposed planar sole portions engaged by a selective resistance coupling that biases the opposed planar sole portions in a non-linear manner in response to forces exerted by the wearer against the sole portion in frictional contact with a floor surface. The planar sole portions are disposed in a footwear appliance that takes the form of an athletic shoe sole. The selective resistance coupling includes a plurality of resilient deformation members that engage the planar sole portions in an opposed circumferentially aligned manner, selectively deform in response to pressure exerted by the wearer for preventing ACL and other impact related injuries, and recover to an undeformed rest position without breakaway to allow the wearer uninterrupted usage while dampening forces that surpass an injury threshold from the resilient deformation that allows the planar sole portions to temporarily misalign.

  • Patent number: 9732721
Abstract: A crankshaft rotating angle controlling method and a crankshaft rotating angle controlling system are provided. A shut-off signal is obtained, and an engine speed is judged. If the engine speed is lower than a specific value, a generator is set in a driving mode at an ending point of a missing tooth signal in a gear pulse signal, such that the generator in the driving mode drives a crankshaft to exceed a top-dead-center of a cylinder. When the crankshaft arrives at a bottom-dead-center of the cylinder, the generator is set to be in a holding mode of an error phase of a three-phase current. Through the generator in the driving mode, the given error phase of the three-phase current stops the generator immediately and the crankshaft is fixed within an angle range of a default stop position.

  • Patent number: 9735549
Abstract: Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are based on quantum cascade (QC) structures. In embodiment methods and corresponding devices, a QC layer in a wave confinement region of an integrated multi-layer semiconductor structure capable of producing optical gain is depleted of free charge carriers to create a low-loss optical wave confinement region in a portion of the structure. Ion implantation may be used to create energetically deep trap levels to trap free charge carriers. Other embodiments include modifying a region of a passive, depleted QC structure to produce an active region capable of optical gain. Gain or loss may also be modified by partially depleting or enhancing free charge carrier density. QC lasers and amplifiers may be integrated monolithically with each other or with passive waveguides and other passive devices in a self-aligned manner. Embodiments overcome challenges of high cost, complex fabrication, and coupling loss involved with material re-growth methods.
