Abstract: High-density microfluidic chips contain plumbing networks with thousands of micromechanical valves and hundreds of individually addressable chambers. These fluidic devices are analogous to electronic integrated circuits fabricated using large scale integration (LSI). A component of these networks is the fluidic multiplexor, which is a combinatorial array of binary valve patterns that exponentially increases the processing power of a network by allowing complex fluid manipulations with a minimal number of inputs. These integrated microfluidic networks can be used to construct a variety of highly complex microfluidic devices, for example the microfluidic analog of a comparator array, and a microfluidic memory storage device resembling electronic random access memories.

Abstract: A phosphorus-free corrosion and scale inhibitor used in circulating cooling water of central air conditioning is provided, which contains tourmaline, green corrosion and scale inhibitor, zinc salt and the like, wherein the content of the tourmaline is 5-500 g/t (calculated based on solid form); the content of the green corrosion and scale inhibitor is 5-50 g/t (calculated based on liquid form); and the content of the zinc salt is 0.2-0.8 g/t (calculated based on solid form), wherein the tourmaline includes dravite, schorlite, elbaite, manganese tourmaline, uvite or the like. The green corrosion and scale inhibitor contains any one, or two or three of polyaspartic acid, polyepoxysuccinic acid and polymaleic acid. Copper corrosion can be effectively inhibited by adding 0.2-2 g/t of benzotriazole (calculated based on solid form) into copper-containing devices. Also disclosed is a method of preparing the phosphorous-free corrosion and scale inhibitor used in circulating cooling water of central air conditioning.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for selectively hydrogenating a copolymer, including contacting a heterogeneous catalyst with a copolymer to process hydrogenation. The copolymer includes aromatic rings and double bonds, and the double bonds are hydrogenated, and the aromatic rings are substantially not hydrogenated. The heterogeneous catalyst includes a metal catalyst such as platinum, palladium, platinum-iridium alloy, or platinum-rhenium alloy formed on a porous support. The hydrogenation is processed at a temperature of 40° C. to 150° C. under a hydrogen pressure of 10 kg/cm2 to 50 kg/cm2.

Abstract: A continuum style manipulator is actuated by jammable media within an envelope of a module, which is also actuated by a tensile element, such as a cable and spooler motor. Multiple modules may be reversibly added. Two or more tensile elements may also be used. Three or more actuated tensile elements can actuate three DOFs of each module, and the terminal module, as well as the entire manipulator. Jammable media may be granular, actuated by a pressure change. Coarsely ground coffee works well. Rather than a jammable media, tensile elements may alternatively be used with other phase change media, such as magnetorheological and electrorheological media. A high friction angle of the granular media is desirable, and has been achieved with a particle size dispersion including both small and relatively larger particles. Applications include endoscopes, proctoscopes, laparoscopic instruments, manufacturing and medical manipulators.

Abstract: A method for analyzing ionic structure, including: applying a radio frequency electric field on an ion mass analyzer to cause sample ions to be excited to a motion amplitude, the motion amplitude at this moment being recorded as a primary motion amplitude; continuously feeding carrier gas into the ion mass analyzer and keeping a certain degree of vacuum in the ion mass analyzer, the sample ions being collided with the carrier gas and the motion amplitude being decreased gradually, and collecting a time domain signal of an image current generated by the sample ions during the process; and analyzing the time domain signal through a time-frequency analysis method and obtaining time-varying characteristic curves indicating corresponding relations between the motion frequencies of the ions having corresponding sizes and the collision cross sectional areas of the ions and the carrier gas, thus distinguishing among ions having different sizes.
Abstract: A HBS-specific antibody, a LHBS-specific antibody, a WT LHBS-specific antibody, an immunoassay kit comprising the antibodies, and a method of detecting pre-S2 deletion mutant LHBS using the immunoassay kit are disclosed herein. The method comprises incubating a biological sample with a first antibody to captured HBS proteins; detecting the LHBS and WT LHBS bound to the immobilized first antibody, respectively; and calculating the amount of the pre-S2 deletion mutant LHBS protein by subtracting the amount of the WT LHBS protein from that of the LHBS protein. Advantageously, by the method described herein, the amount of the pre-S2 deletion mutant LHBS, a potential high-risk marker for HCC incidence in chronic HBV carriers and recurrence in HCC patients after hepatectomy surgery, in a biological sample may be easily calculated without mutual influence between the WT and pre-S mutant LHBS while reducing the labor-intensive process for cloning each gene product before analysis.
Abstract: A high permeable porous substrate for a solid oxide fuel cell and a production method to produce the substrate are provided. The high permeable porous substrate for a solid oxide fuel cell includes a porous substrate body and a plurality of channels. The plurality of channels penetrate the first surface of the porous substrate body and does not penetrate the second surface of the porous substrate body. In addition, a production method for the high permeable porous substrate of a solid oxide fuel cell is also provided.

Abstract: A probe for use in magnetostrictive testing of tubular structures. The probe has a handle and an outer tube, the latter having an expandable probe head for insertion into the tubular structure. A pair of magnetostrictive sensors is mounted in or on the probe head. A flexible bladder is located inside the outer tube in the area of the probe head, and communicates with a pressurizing cartridge in the probe handle via a bladder tube. The bladder is operable to expand, causing the probe head to expand, which moves the sensors toward the inner wall of the tubular structure. The probe is also equipped with a couplant injector that delivers coupling fluid to any gaps between the inner surface of the tubular structure and the outer surface of the probe.
