Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods for modulating the interaction between a TAM ligand and a lipid membrane containing phosphatidyl serine (PtdSer). In one example, such methods use a TAM receptor agonist having a PtdSer-containing lipid bilayer membrane with Gas6 and/or Protein S bound to the membrane to activate signaling from one or more TAM receptors and treat an autoimmune disease. In another example, methods are provided for treating a subject with a pathological condition characterized by overactivation of TAM signaling and/or reduction in Type I IFN response, such as infection by an enveloped virus, by use of agents that decrease the interaction between a TAM ligand and PtdSer. Also provided are methods for classifying a virus as susceptible to anti-TAM therapy. Methods of identifying an agent that blocks virus infectivity are also provided.

  • Patent number: 9647765
Abstract: A burst-mode phase shift keying (PSK) communications apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention enables practical, power-efficient, multi-rate communications between an optical transmitter and receiver. Embodiments may operate on differential PSK (DPSK) signals. An embodiment of the apparatus includes an average power limited optical transmitter that transmits at a selectable data rate with data transmitted in bursts, the data rate being a function of a burst-on duty cycle. DPSK symbols are transmitted in bursts, and the data rate may be varied by changing the ratio of the burst-on time to the burst-off time. This approach offers a number of advantages over conventional DPSK implementations, including near-optimum photon efficiency over a wide range of data rates, simplified multi-rate transceiver implementation, and relaxed transmit laser line-width requirements at low data rates.

  • Patent number: 9645254
Abstract: The present invention measures the dose distribution of radiation emitted from a measurement region. A dose distribution measuring device comprises a radiation detecting unit and a radiation varying unit disposed between the radiation detecting unit and a measurement region. A dose at the location of the radiation detecting unit is measured by the radiation detecting unit in a state in which the direction from which the radiation, which is to be measured by being varied by the radiation varying unit, is emitted from the measurement region onto the radiation detecting unit, is predetermined. The angular distribution of the radiation dose emitted on the radiation detecting unit from the measurement region is measured by identifying the direction and angle from which the radiation arrives from the measurement region to the radiation detecting unit and calculating the dose of the arriving radiation before varying with the radiation varying unit.
