Abstract: Apparatus for transmitting energy comprising an electrical machine arranged to convert between electrical and mechanical energy, and comprising a rotor (20) and control means (42, 44, 90) arranged to regulate the motion of the rotor to ensure that the power angle of the electrical machine is maintained within a range of a predetermined power angle. A signal generator (2, 6), such as a synchronous machine and associated flywheel, may generate a reference signal relating to the predetermined power angle and be powered by a frequency regulated electrical supply. The control means (42, 44, 90) may be a mechanical control linkage or servo control system and may regulate the output of the motion of the rotor in response to a change in its motion which the control means or a dedicated detection device detects. The electrical machine may be an electric motor, an electricity generator, or a machine switchable between motor and generator modes.

  • Patent number: 9424857
Abstract: An encoding method of an encoder is provided. The encoder generates first MDCT coefficients by transforming an input signal, and generates MDCT indices by quantizing the first MDCT coefficients. The encoder generates second MDCT coefficients by dequantizing the MDCT indices, and calculates MDCT residual coefficients using differences between the first MDCT coefficients and the second MDCT coefficients. The encoder generates a residual index by encoding the MDCT residual coefficients, and generates gain indices corresponding to gains from the first MDCT coefficients and the second MDCT coefficients.

  • Patent number: 9421877
Abstract: A power transmission system has an AC power source and a high-frequency power driver that make up a high-frequency power source, and a primary self-resonant coil and a secondary self-resonant coil. The secondary self-resonant coil is magnetically coupled, by magnetic field resonance, to the primary self-resonant coil, and receives as a result high-frequency power from the primary self-resonant coil. The coils of the primary self-resonant coil and the secondary self-resonant coil resonate in an even mode when high-frequency power is transmitted from the primary self-resonant coil to the secondary self-resonant coil. Specifically, the primary self-resonant coil and the secondary self-resonant coil resonate in a state where currents in mutually opposite directions flow in the two coils.

  • Patent number: 9424309
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes the method for optimizing the performance of data base/web-service backed applications by automatically prefetching query results. The proposed system and methods automatically insert prefetch instructions at the earliest possible points across procedure calls in application source code, in presence of conditional branching and loops. A data flow analysis technique called anticipable expressions analysis is extended, to analyze anticipability of queries. The benefit of prefetching is limited due to the presence of assignment statements and conditional branches that precede the query execution statement. Enhancements such as code motion, chaining and rewriting prefetch requests are devised to increase benefits of prefetching. These techniques perform equivalence preserving program and query transformations.

  • Patent number: 9424103
Abstract: A method for operating a lock in a computing system having plural processing units and running under multiple runtime environments is provided. When a requester thread attempts to acquire the lock while the lock is held by a holder thread, determine whether the holder thread is suspendable or non-suspendable. If the holder thread is non-suspendable, put the requester thread in a spin state regardless of whether the requester thread is suspendable or non-suspendable; otherwise determines whether the requester thread is suspendable or non-suspendable unless the requester thread quits acquiring the lock. If the requester thread is non-suspendable, arrange the requester thread to attempt acquiring the lock again; otherwise add the requester thread to a wait queue as an additional suspended thread. Suspended threads stored in the wait queue are allowable to be resumed later for lock acquisition. The method is applicable for the computing system with a multicore processor.
