    Abstract: A device for acquiring depth image, a calibrating method and a measuring method therefore are provided. The device includes at least one projecting device, at least one image sensing device, a mechanism device and a processing unit. The projecting device projects a projection pattern to a measured object. The image sensing device is controlled to adjust a focal length and focus position, and therefore sense real images. The mechanism device adjusts a location and/or a convergence angle of the image sensing device. The processing unit calibrates the at least one image sensing device and generates a three dimension (3D) measuring parameter set at a model focal length according to a plurality of image setting parameter reference sets corresponding to a model focal length and a plurality of default node distances, respectively, and then estimates a depth map or depth information of the measured object.

    Abstract: A structure configured to modify its surface morphology between a smooth state and a rough state in response to an applied stress. In demonstrated examples, a soft (PDMS) substrate is produced, and is pre-strained. A relatively stiff overlayer of a metal, such as chromium and gold, is applied to the substrate. When the pre-strained substrate is allowed to relax, the free surface of the stiff overlayer is forced to become distorted, yielding a free surface having a roughness of less than 1 millimeter. Repeated application and removal of the applied stress has been shown to yield reproducible changes in the morphology of the free surface. An application of such morphing free surface is to control a boundary layer transition of an aerodynamic fluid flowing over the surface.

    Abstract: The present application discloses a method of detecting abnormal movement of a physical object. A periodic signal is representative of the movement of the object. According to some embodiments, a raw matrix having a first array and a second array is generated, and then an integrated matrix is generated by performing a dimension reduction on the raw matrix. A likelihood of a predetermined type of abnormal movement of the physical object is determined by comparing the integrated matrix with a predetermined benchmark pattern. In some embodiments, the generation of the raw matrix includes performing a first analysis on a predetermined portion of the periodic signal to generate the first array and performing a second analysis different from the first analysis on the predetermined portion of the periodic signal to generate the second array.

The advantage of this method to produce acetoin has been defined by its high-yield without mixture with diacetyl or 2,3-butanediol, both of which are usually accompanied with acetoin in other strain. This Bacillus subtilis mutant strain has been deposited in China General Microbiological Culture Collection (CGMCC) and the accession number is CGMCC No. 1869, in which the process of fermentation for acetoin production is composed of (1) strain activation, (2) seed culture, (3) fermentation, (4) quantification of substrates and products. Based on current method, the concentration of acetoin in the ferment broth can reach to 35-55 g/L and the conversion rate of glucose to acetoin is in the range of 40-50%.

The retroreflector may, for example, be an array of or individual prisms or an array of or individual cat's eye microspheres. The layer of material above the retroreflector can include a colorimetric dye. In an embodiment, the retroreflector and layer are on the surface of a carrier that moves through a medium, e.g. a projectile or vehicle moving through the air. In a method of detecting a phenomenon, retroreflective elements are distributed in an array, as in the atmosphere or across a region of ground.

    Abstract: A method of measuring direction of rotation of a tappet of an engine valve train. Two opposing notches are machined or otherwise formed in the outer surface of the tappet. Two sensors proximate the outer surface of the tappet are operable to detect the change in distance resulting from the notches as the tappet rotates. There is a predetermined difference angle of separation between the arc distance between the notches and the arc distance between the sensors. Each sensor outputs a square wave output having pulses whose width represents detection of the notches by the sensor. The location of the pulses of the two square wave outputs is compared to determine direction of rotation of the tappet.
