    Abstract: Nitrogen-containing lipids prepared from the conjugate addition of amines to acrylates, acrylamides, or other carbon-carbon double bonds conjugated to electron-withdrawing groups are described. Methods of preparing these lipids from commercially available starting materials are also provided. These amine-containing lipids or salts forms of these lipids are preferably biodegradable and biocompatible and may be used in a variety of drug delivery systems. Given the amino moiety of these lipids, they are particularly suited for the delivery of polynucleotides. Complexes or nanoparticles containing the inventive lipid and polynucleotide have been prepared. The inventive lipids may also be used to in preparing microparticle for drug delivery. They are particularly useful in delivering labile agents given their ability to buffer the pH of their surroundings.

    Abstract: A sensor system includes one or more gyroscopes and one or more accelerometers, for measuring subtle motions of a user's body. The system estimates physiological parameters of a user, such as heart rate, breathing rate and heart rate variability. When making the estimates, different weights are assigned to data from different sensors. For at least one estimate, weight assigned to data from at least one gyroscope is different than weight assigned to data from at least one accelerometer. Also, for at least one estimate, a weight assigned to one or more sensors located in a first region relative to the user's body is different than a weight assigned to one or more sensors located in a second region relative to the user's body. Furthermore, weight assigned to data from at least one sensor changes over time.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a soil heavy metal curing agent for controlling accumulation of heavy metals of crops and its preparation method. The curing agent is made from the following parts of raw materials by weight: 60˜140 parts of substance containing carbon-carbon double bond; 1˜400 parts of sulfo-compound by sulfur; 50˜500 parts of organic matter by 10% water content; 0˜400 parts of water; 0˜100 parts of an initiator; 0˜200 parts of a reducer; and 0˜200 parts of a strong base. The curing agent for heavy metals in the soil according to the present invention can reduce the cadmium, lead and mercury content in the soil and further greatly reduce the roots absorption of these heavy metals.

    Abstract: A fuel-air premixer for use in a combustor of a gas turbine includes an air inlet, a fuel inlet, a shroud, a central body and a cascade of vanes. The premixer mixes fuel and air in the annular mixing passage into a uniform mixture for injecting into a combustor reaction zone. The air from a compressor is injected into the mixer through an air inlet. The fuel is introduced into air stream via fuel injection holes that pass through the walls of the vanes which contain internal fuel flow passages. The flow field inside the premixer is broken up by the arrayed vanes into a series of small regions each containing a well designed small size mixing eddy which is steadily attached to the surface of the vanes.
