  • Patent number: 9056422
Abstract: In exemplary implementations of this invention, a manufactured physical object includes surface features that encode information according to a code. Each respective surface feature consists of a bump on, or recess in, a surface of the object. Each respective surface feature by itself, regardless of any state of any other surface feature, encodes a sequence of multiple bits. The sequence is determined, at least in part, by a discrete elevation of the respective surface feature. At least three different discrete elevations of surface features are significant in the code. Also, one or more other parameters of the surface features may be significant in the code, such as discrete rotational orientation, discrete overall shape, discrete color, or presence or absence of the feature.

  • Patent number: 9056782
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing a platinum-manganese dioxide/carbon complex for a positive-electrode material of a lithium-air battery. More specifically, a manganese dioxide/carbon complex is prepared by dispersing carbon in a manganese dioxide precursor solution and applying microwaves, filtering and drying to the resulting solution. Next a platinum-manganese dioxide/carbon complex is prepared by dispersing the manganese dioxide/carbon complex in ethylene glycol, adding a platinum precursor and applying microwaves to the resulting solution. The platinum-manganese dioxide/carbon complex synthesized according to the present invention exhibits lower overvoltage and higher current density in oxygen reduction and oxidation reactions as compared to either a manganese dioxide/carbon complex or a platinum/carbon complex.

  • Patent number: 9056305
Abstract: The present invention discloses a catalyst used in preparing vinyl chloride, its method of preparation, and its applications. Said catalyst used in making vinyl chloride comprises activated carbon as a support, a barium compound and a phosphorus compound supported thereon. The barium compound accounts for 0.2% to 20% of the total mass of the catalyst and the phosphorus compound accounts for 0% to 10% of the total mass of the catalyst based on the mass percentage. A water-soluble barium compound, a water-soluble phosphorus compound, an aqueous polymer monomer, and water are mixed to form a solution or emulsion A. The activated carbon is added into the solution or emulsion A. The activated carbon is removed from water after impregnation, spin-dried, and then the monomers are polymerized. The activated carbon, after polymerization step, is heated to remove water and to decompose and carbonize the polymer. The catalyst after carbonization was activated to obtain a catalyst used in making vinyl chloride.

  • Patent number: 9056781
Abstract: Provided is a method of synthesizing high-purity calcite capable of controlling a grain size thereof, by reacting an aqueous calcium chloride solution with CO2 gas under strong alkaline condition, to crystallize into white and ultra-fine grain calcite. The method of synthesizing fine-grain calcite according to the present disclosure can decrease super-saturation by producing calcite under the strong alkaline conditions, thereby suppressing generation and growth of grain, resulting in controlling the grain size. Therefore, the above method is useful in producing high-purity ultra-fine grain calcite and can control the grain size of calcite from several hundreds of nanometers to several tens of nanometers by regulating the concentration of an aqueous caustic soda solution.
