Abstract: An apparatus and method for thermally destroying tumors. A tip has a plurality of deployable thermal conductive elements whose temperatures are individually controllable. This allows the shape of the thermal field to be controlled and for specific areas to be protected from excessive heat by cooling those specific areas while ablating other areas. In another embodiment, the deployable thermal conductive elements are individually deployable to various lengths to further aid in shaping the thermal field. The temperatures and the shape of the thermal field may be monitored and controlled by a data processing device, such as a microprocessor. Further selectivity in defining the area of tissue to be treated may be achieved by introducing into the tissue thermal additives that alter the thermal properties of the tissue.

Abstract: A water treatment agent for removing pollutant by reinforcing potassium permanganate with intermediate manganese consists of a potassium permanganate and a chelating agent, or, alternatively, consists of a potassium permanganate, a chelating agent and an inducer. The chelating agent is capable of forming a coordination complex with the intermediate manganese which is produced during the reaction of potassium permanganate and organic substance. Thus self decomposition of intermediate manganese is reduced so that the effective utilization rate is increased and the capability for potassium permanganate to degrade organic pollutants is enhanced. The inducer accelerates the production of the intermediate manganese and increases the utilization rate so that the capability of potassium permanganate for degrading the organic pollutants is further enhanced.

Abstract: In order to manage a neighbor list of neighboring base stations based on the location of a terminal communicating with a base station of a macrocell with femtocell deployments, the base station divides the macrocell in accordance with a predetermined standard of division, and generates a mobile neighbor advertisement message so as to periodically transmit the generated message to the terminal. At this time, the terminal identifies the current location thereof in the macrocell upon receipt of the pilot signals periodically transmitted from the base station of the macrocell. The terminal obtains information regarding the location of the terminal from the information regarding the femtocells deployed within the respective divided regions and information regarding macrocells neighboring the macrocell through using the mobile neighbor advertisement message to scan base stations.

Abstract: Deterministic Finite Automatons (DFAs) and Nondeterministic Finite Automatons (NFAs) are two typical automatons used in the Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS). Although they both perform regular expression matching, they have quite different performance and memory usage properties. DFAs provide fast and deterministic matching performance but suffer from the well-known state explosion problem. NFAs are compact, but their matching performance is unpredictable and with no worst case guarantee. A new automaton representation of regular expressions, called Tunable Finite Automaton (TFA), is described. TFAs resolve the DFAs' state explosion problem and the NFAs' unpredictable performance problem. Different from a DFA, which has only one active state, a TFA allows multiple concurrent active states. Thus, the total number of states required by the TFA to track the matching status is much smaller than that required by the DFA.
