Abstract: The present application discloses a method for manufacturing a semiconductor device. The method may comprise providing a fin in a semiconductor layer of a SOI substrate, and providing a stack of gate dielectric and gate conductor on only a first side of the fin. The gate conductor may extend laterally away from the first side of the fin in a gate extending direction. The method may comprise doping the fin at its other two opposing sides so as to provide a source region and a drain region. Each of the source and drain regions may have a portion extending laterally away from a second side, opposite to the first side, of the fin in a source/drain extending direction. The gate extending direction and the source/drain extending direction can be parallel to the main surface of the SOI substrate, while being opposite to each other. The method may comprise providing a channel region at a central portion of the fin.

Abstract: In an approach for sampling a distribution of segmentations of an image, the segmentations are based on a level set function. For each sample of the distribution, the sampling includes the following, for each of multiple iterations: randomly selecting a set of locations of the level set function, determining a domain of allowed perturbations of the level set function at the selected set of locations, and randomly accepting a perturbation of the level set function according to a criterion corresponding to a biased distribution over the domain of allowed perturbations of the level set function, wherein the bias is selected to increase a probability of accepting the perturbation. The sampling also includes determining the sample of the distribution of segmentations according to a perturbed level set function determined in a final iteration of the multiple iterations for the sample.
Abstract: Systems and methods for constructing integrated three dimensional electromagnetic element arrays using a bulk resonator are illustrated. In several embodiments, the integrated three dimensional electromagnetic element arrays include electromagnetic elements buried within the bulk resonator. In many embodiments, inclusion of a third dimension in the electromagnetic element array can alleviate or eliminate the trade-offs that are experienced in conventional integrated antennas by using the third physical dimension to provide an additional degree of freedom to manipulate electromagnetic boundary conditions in the near-field of the substrate, affecting both the resulting electromagnetic near- and far-fields. In several embodiments, three dimensional electromagnetic element arrays are formed by mechanically stacking substrates on which integrated planar circuits are formed (i.e. chips) using conventional die stacking techniques.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for making a pure aluminum nitride substrate. At first, aluminum nitride is mixed with a water-resistant material and an adhesive material. The mixture is made into grains in a granulation process. The grains are molded into a nugget in a steel mode by hydraulic pressure. The nugget is subjected to a cold isostatic pressing process. At a low temperature, the water-resistant material and the adhesive material are removed from the nugget. Then, the nugget, boron nitride and nitrogen are introduced into and sintered in an oven, thus providing a pure aluminum nitride substrate. The purity and quality of the aluminum nitride substrate are high. The aluminum nitride substrate can be used in a light-emitting diode. The method is simple, the yield is high, and the heat radiation of the aluminum nitride substrate is excellent.

Abstract: A spinning cell device is described for fast and convenient standardization and analysis of constituents and isotopes in solid samples by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma (LA-ICP) spectrometry. The method and apparatus for performing the method require the sample under test and a standard to be spun during ablation allowing the quasi-simultaneous ablation of both materials. The aerosols resulting from the ablation of sample and standard are mixed in the ablation cell allowing quantification of the ablated metals by the method of standard addition or isotope dilution. The relative proportion of standard verses sample ablated can be changed by altering the trajectory of the laser beam. The ablated aerosol is swept into an inductively coupled plasma by a carrier gas and analyzed by mass spectrometry.

Abstract: The present invention provides a battery module state detection method. The battery module includes a battery unit and is connected to a load. The method for detecting the battery module status includes the following steps. First, measure an on-load voltage value of the battery unit and a load current value of a load. Next, calculate an instant resistance value of the battery unit according to a no-load voltage value of the battery unit, the on-load voltage value and the load current value. Finally, obtain an operating state of the battery unit according to the instant resistance and a relationship between the internal resistance and discharging time. By the method of the present invention, the user can monitor the remaining energy of the battery module accurately in real time and therefore prevent the electrical hazard caused by over-discharging the battery module.
