Abstract: Provided are a gas barrier film that is simply and economically manufactured, and has high hardness and strength, excellent gas blocking properties, controllable refraction index and transparency, and a compositionally gradient structure, and a method of producing the same. The gas barrier film includes a base material; and an organic/inorganic hybrid gas barrier layer that is formed on the base material and has a composition-gradient structure. The organic/inorganic hybrid gas barrier layer has a network structure having —O—Si—O— linkages. The network structure contains an organic functional group having a carbon atom directly linked to a silicon atom of the —O—Si—O— linkages, and other element that exists in an oxide form in the interstitial location of the network structure or that is linked to an oxygen atom of the —O—Si—O— linkages, wherein the other element comprises at least one selected from alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, transition metal, post transition metal, metalloid, boron, and phosphorous.

Abstract: A method for detecting objects is provided. The method comprises the steps outlined below. An image having pixels is acquired. Image blocks each corresponding to one of the pixels are generated. A specific image block is filtered using N filtering parameters that gradually enhance the blurriness of the specific image block to generate N filtering results. N RMSE values are computed, in which the M-th RMSE value is computed according to the M-th and the (M?1)-th filtering results. A slope of an approximate line is computed according to the RMSE values as the blurriness value of the specific image block. The above steps are repeated to generate the blurriness values of all the pixels. The blurriness value is compared to a threshold value to detect sharp pixels which are parts of a sharp object and further detect an in-focus object.

Abstract: Cymbopogon schoenanthus is used in folk medicine in North-African for the treatment of rheumatism and to diminish fever. However, whether it possesses anti-stress properties had not previously been established in vivo. Disclosed herein are data demonstrating the effectiveness of C. schoenanthus ethanol extracts on stressors in vitro (heat shock and oxidative stress) and on stressors in vivo (forced swimming test and tail suspension test). Moreover, disclosed are statistically significant anti-stress effects in vivo which occur in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, the effects of C. schoenanthus ethanol extract exposure is shown to be comparable to a commercially-available antidepressant drug. Accordingly, C. schoenanthus ethanol extracts are useful in new compositions and methods for treating or ameliorating emotional-psychological stress.

Abstract: The present invention relates to fibulin-3 protein and a pharmaceutical composition comprising the fibulin-3 protein as an active ingredient for inhibiting the growth of cancer stem cells. More particularly, in cancer stem cells separated from H460 and A549 cells, which are non-small-cell lung cancer cells, using ALDH1 activity as a marker, fibulin-3 induces the reductions of wnt/?-catenin, MMP2 and 7, which display characteristics of cancer stem cells, thereby decreasing the activated growth and penetration of the cancer stem cells. In addition, the purified fibulin-3 protein inhibits the growth of the non-small-cell lung cancer cell line A549, the breast cancer cell line MDA-MB231, and the cancer stem cell line active ALDH1. Therefore, fibulin-3 can be valuably used as an active ingredient of the pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting the growth of cancer stem cells.

Abstract: A set of antenna geometries for use in integrated arrays at terahertz frequencies are described. Two fabrication techniques to construct such antennas are presented. The first technique uses an advanced laser micro-fabrication, allowing fabricating advanced 3D geometries. The second technique uses photolithographic processes, allowing the fabrication of arrays on a single wafer in parallel.

Abstract: A method for preparing pimaric acid type resin acids includes: step (1) adding refined resin acid, turpentine, or rosin along with maleic anhydride at a mass ratio of 1:0.3-1.5 into a reaction bottle, dissolving the ingredients into a C1-C10 lower fatty acid solvent, the mass ratio of the C1-C10 low fatty acid to refined resin acid is 0.05-30:1, then carrying out additional reaction by heating directly or with assistance of a microwave, subsequently cooling, crystallizing, filtering, and washing; and step (2) combining the filtrates collected in step (1), stripping the solvent by vacuum distillation to obtain pimaric acid type resin acid coarse product, dissolving the resulting coarse product in NaOH aqueous solution to prepare aqueous solution of pimaric acid type resin acid salt, adjusting the pH to 6-14 with a mineral acid or an organic acid, and either directly purifying or acidifying followed by purifying to obtain the final product.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a content providing system and method combining a transparent Internet cache (TIC) server and a content delivery network (CDN), and more particularly, to a content providing system and method that may overcome limitation on capacity of a cache storage found in a TIC service and may also overcome limitation on service transparency found in a CDN service. According to the present invention, it is possible to overcome limitation on capacity of a cache storage found in an existing TIC service and to overcome limitation on service transparency found in a CDN by combining a TIC server and the CDN.

An exemplary embodiment of the AC LED device includes at least two separate AC LED unit chips, wherein each of the AC LED unit chip includes a substrate having a first light emitting module and a second light emitting module. Each of the first and second light emitting modules includes a plurality of light emitting micro diodes connected between a first conductive electrode and a second conductive electrode, wherein the amount of light emitting micro diodes emitting light during a positive half cycle of an AC charge is equal to that during a negative half cycle of an AC charge. A plurality of conductive wires is respectively and electrically connected to the separate AC LED unit chips without passive devices.
