  • Publication number: 20140129029
Abstract: A proximity sensing apparatus is provided. The proximity sensing apparatus includes an encoded signal transmission unit, an interference signal transmission unit and a reception unit. The encoded signal transmission unit transmits an encoded signal, and the interference signal transmission unit transmits an interference signal. The interference signal interferes with the encoded signal to generate an interfered signal. The reception unit receives a sensing signal and outputs the sensing signal to a signal processing unit. The sensing signal is either the interfered signal or the encoded signal. The signal processing unit is electrically connected to the reception unit, and determines whether the sensing signal matches the encoded signal. The signal processing unit further outputs a proximity signal when the sensing signal does not match the encoded signal.

  • Publication number: 20140127542
Abstract: Composite separators having a porous structure and including acid-stable, hydrophilic, inorganic particles enmeshed in a substantially fully fluorinated polyolefin matrix can be utilized in a number of applications. The inorganic particles can provide hydrophilic characteristics. The pores of the separator result in good selectivity and electrical conductivity. The fluorinated polymeric backbone can result in high chemical stability. Accordingly, one application of the composite separators is in redox flow batteries as low cost membranes. In such applications, the composite separator can also enable additional property-enhancing features compared to ion-exchange membranes. For example, simple capacity control can be achieved through hydraulic pressure by balancing the volumes of electrolyte on each side of the separator.

  • Publication number: 20140127730
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for developing and using diagnoses of one or more underlying health affections in humans or an animal specie using a plurality of biomarkers. A target one or more affections are defined and a set of biomarkers is selected. An index is computed based on the measured levels of the biomarkers. The biomarkers levels are discretized, and each discrete value is multiplied by a corresponding coefficient. The index scale is divided into ranges that are matched with health statuses. A subject's health affection status is subsequently determined by measuring the level of each biomarker in the set, computing the index and matching the index value to the predefined index scale.

  • Publication number: 20140126260
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a low drop diode equivalent circuit. Piezoelectric device based vibration energy harvesting requires a rectifier for conversion of input ac to usable dc form. Power loss due to diode drop in rectifier is a significant fraction of the already low levels of harvested power. The low-drop-diode equivalent can replace the rectifier diodes and minimise power loss. The diode equivalent mimics a diode using linear region operated MOSFET. The diode equivalent is powered directly from input signal and requires no additional power supply for its control. Power used by the control circuit is kept at a value which gives an overall output power improvement. The diode equivalent replaces the four diodes in a full wave bridge rectifier, which is the basic full-wave rectifier and is a part of the more advanced rectifiers like switch-only and bias-flip rectifiers.

Abstract: The approaches and apparatuses for fabricating cathodes can be adapted to improve control over cathode composition and to better accommodate batteries of any shape and their assembly. For example, a first solid having an alkali metal halide, a second solid having a transition metal, and a third solid having an alkali metal aluminum halide are combined into a mixture. The mixture can be heated in a vacuum to a temperature that is greater than or equal to the melting point of the third solid. When the third solid is substantially molten liquid, the mixture is compressed into a desired cathode shape and then cooled to solidify the mixture in the desired cathode shape.
