    Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing controlled heating, cooling and motion, in a device such as an active robotic automobile seat, are disclosed. A shape memory alloy (SMA) element, which changes shape upon application of a temperature change to the SMA element, is coupled to a thermoelectric device. Heat flows through the TED upon application of an electrical current through the TED. The apparatus is operable in one of a plurality of modes. In a first mode, a current is applied through the TED to cause a temperature change in the SMA element to change the shape of the SMA element. In a second mode, a current is applied to the TED to cause heat flow in a space adjacent to the apparatus. By controlling application of current to the TED, controlled motion, heating and cooling are achieved in the seat.

    Abstract: An electrostatic separation system for separating fine metal and plastics is disclosed. An electrostatic separation system according to the present invention comprises a negative electrostatic induction plate and positive metal net made of special materials, which have appropriate dimensions and an appropriate space between them to improve separation efficiency, and a separating plate which is appropriately positioned to improve separation efficiency. The electrostatic separation system has processing capacity more than 5 times in comparison to conventional electrostatic selection systems and is able to separate fine particles of 0.1 mm in size. In addition, the electrostatic separation system has wide application in recycling other useful recourses as well as separating the mixture of fine particle metal and non-metal materials.

    Abstract: A transmitting/receiving apparatus of down-link data using an automatic repeat request (ARQ) scheme and a method thereof in a wireless communication system is provided. In order to send an ARQ feedback message between a base station and a terminal without a radio resource allocation process in a wireless communication system, when the base station receives down-link data from the terminal of the base station, the base station stores the number list of the transmitted frames and periodically detects the list and automatically allocates radio resources for up-link without an additional process when the list is larger than a predetermined frame. The radio resource allocation request process can be omitted because a radio resource is automatically allocated during the up-link period after the base station transmits the down-link traffic. Thus, the response speed of an ARQ feedback acknowledgement message is enhanced, thereby enhancing a down-link transmission speed.

    Abstract: A bidirectional continuous power transmission system, characterized by a projecting bolt moving within a guiding opening with a rear wall and a front wall. Upon a rotating movement, the projecting bolt exerts a force on the rear wall or the front wall, depending on the orientation of the rotating movement. The force has a component parallel to an axis of rotation, causing two halves of a driven wheel to be pressed together and against a transmission belt. By providing the rear wall and the front wall of the guiding opening with defined curvatures, well-defined forces are exerted at any speed in both orientations of the rotating movement, so that torque is continuously transmitted effectively in both directions.

The apparatus and method for checking validity of an 8B/10B code-group relatively shortens the critical path, which indicates the number of combinational logic circuits that should be operated in a unit time, and therefore the apparatus and method are appropriate to high-speed systems such as gigabit Ethernet systems.
