  • Patent number: 7212560
Abstract: Provided is a tunable external cavity laser diode using a variable optical deflector wherein the variable optical deflector, in which a refractive index varies according to an electrical signal, is arranged in a triangular shape between a concave diffraction grating and a reflective mirror. Since a resonant frequency is changed using the electrical signal rather than the mechanical movement, the stable operation and continuous high-speed tenability may be enabled. In addition, when the tunable external cavity laser diode according to the present invention is implemented in an InP/InGaAsP/InP slab waveguide, a variable time determined by the carrier lifetime may be reduced to several nanoseconds or less, the miniaturization is enabled, and the manufacturing costs are significantly reduced due to the process simplification.

  • Patent number: 7210783
Abstract: The present invention relates to lenses that are capable of post-fabrication power modifications. In general, the inventive lenses comprise (i) a first polymer matrix and (ii) a refraction modulating composition that is capable of stimulus-induced polymerization dispersed therein. When at least a portion of the lens is exposed to an appropriate stimulus, the refraction modulating composition forms a second polymer matrix. The amount and location of the second polymer matrix may modify a lens characteristic such as lens power by changing its refractive index and/or by altering its shape. The inventive lenses have a number of applications in the electronics and medical fields as data storage means and as medical lenses, particularly intraocular lenses, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7212198
Abstract: The invention provides a simulation system and method having an image generating function that can visualize the behavior of an object of analysis in real time. The behavior of the object of analysis is divided into a plurality of subspaces, and is visualized as subspace images by an MP method by performing simulation computations for the respective subspaces at nodes 431 to 438. The subspace images are sent to a pipelined composer 44 where the images are blended together by considering occlusion relationships determined by reference to a viewpoint by a BSP method. The resulting composited image is corrected for distortion at a server 40 by using a texture mapping function, and is displayed on a display apparatus 41.

  • Patent number: 7211562
Abstract: The administration of cytotoxic agents followed by the administration of heat shock protein 90 inhibitors, such as ansamycins, has a synergistic effect on the growth inhibition of cells. This synergy occurs at doses of each cytotoxic agent that normally only causes minimal growth inhibition of cells. Such combination therapy thus allows one to use lower doses of cytotoxic agents to avoid or reduce their respective toxicity to patients without compromising their growth inhibitory effects. Thus, these combinations can be used for the treatment of an animal, preferably a mammal, that has a cell proliferative disorder, whether the cells have wild-type Rb or are Rb deficient or Rb negative. One such method, directed to treating cell proliferative disorders includes the step of administering a therapeutic effective amount of a cytotoxic agent followed by administering a therapeutic effective amount of a heat shock protein 90 inhibitor.

  • Publication number: 20070090292
Abstract: A semiconductor radiation detector 10 comprises a Si substrate 11 of an N-ype of low resistance, an arsenic coating layer 12 formed on the Si substrate, and a CdTe growth layer 13 of a P-type of high resistance laminated and formed thereon by the MOVPE method, which is divided into multiple plane elements of a hetero junction structure by means of division grooves 15 extending from the CdTe growth layer surface to the Si substrate. The Si substrate is heated in a hydrogen reducing atmosphere of a high temperature, and its surface is cleaned. On this Si substrate, GaAs powder or GaAs crystals are thermally decomposed, and coated by arsenic molecule to an extent at about one molecular layer, and an arsenic coating layer is thereby formed. On the Si substrate forming the arsenic coating layer, a CdTe growth layer is formed by the MOVPE method to a film thickness of about 0.2 to 0.5 mm in an atmosphere of about 450 to 500 deg. C.

  • Publication number: 20070089978
Abstract: The present invention relates to low molecular weight chitosan oligosaccharides and its preparation method. Chitosan oligosaccharides were obtained under microwave irradiation assisted the electrolyte. The method of preparing chitosan oligosaccharides was described as follows: acid solvent containing electrolyte was added to chitosan. The reaction was performed at 480˜800 W for 3˜12 min. After irradiation ceased, the reaction liquid was cooled to room temperature. Then the solution was adjusted to neutrality with 1˜10 M NaOH or KOH and obtained the pale yellow floc. The processes of precipitation, filtering, desiccation and crushing are settled sequentially. Finally, chitosan oligosaccharides were obtained. Method of the present invention makes chitosan degrade to water-soluble chitosan oligosaccharides and it makes some inert substance become active. The method of the present invention can cut down energy consumption, decrease pollution and save time and raw materials.
