  • Publication number: 20140058736
Abstract: According to an embodiment, a signal processing apparatus includes an estimation unit and an updating unit. The estimation unit is configured to estimate an auxiliary variable of a target section including first and second sections of input signals by using an approximating auxiliary function for approximating an auxiliary function having an auxiliary variable as an argument. The auxiliary function is determined according to an objective function that outputs a function value that is smaller as a statistical independence of separated signals into which input signals in time-series are separated by a demixing matrix is higher. The estimation unit is configured to estimate a value of the auxiliary variable of the target section based on the estimated auxiliary variable. The updating unit is configured to update the demixing matrix such that a function value of the approximating auxiliary function is minimized.

  • Patent number: 8658777
Abstract: It is an object of the invention to provide novel approaches capable of detecting activated protease and also detecting protease activation on real time at a high sensitivity in a noninvasive manner. By the method for detecting activated protease of the invention, an indicator in a circular form comprising the C-half fragment of luciferase (Luc-C) and the N-half fragment of luciferase (Luc-N) linked together through a substrate peptide for a protease is introduced in an in vitro assay system or in cells. Upon digestion of the substrate peptide by the protease, Luc-N and Luc-C together reconstructs active luciferase, so that the activated protease can be detected by assaying the luminescence signal from the luciferase.

Abstract: This computation device and method exponentially shortens a computation time of an NP-complete problem or the like mapped into an Ising model by exponentially shortening a computation time of the Ising mode. For each pair of a plurality of slave lasers, by controlling the intensity, the polarization, and the phase of light exchanged between two slave lasers using an attenuator and a wave plate, the magnitude and the sign of pseudo Ising interaction between two slave lasers are implemented. Then, after the plurality of slave lasers arrive at a steady state, by measuring the polarization of light generated by each slave laser with left-handed circular polarization and right-handed circular polarization used as bases, a pseudo spin of each slave laser is measured.

  • Patent number: 8470724
Abstract: Upon producing a transparent polycrystalline material, a suspension liquid (or slurry 1) is prepared, the suspension liquid being made by dispersing a raw-material powder in a solution, the raw-material powder including optically anisotropic single-crystalline particles to which a rare-earth element is added. A formed body is obtained from the suspension liquid by means of carrying out slip casting in a space with a magnetic field applied. On this occasion, while doing a temperature control so that the single-crystalline particles demonstrate predetermined magnetic anisotropy, one of static magnetic fields and rotary magnetic fields is selected in compliance with a direction of an axis of easy magnetization in the single-crystalline particles, and is then applied to them. A transparent polycrystalline material is obtained by sintering the formed body, the transparent polycrystalline material having a polycrystalline structure whose crystal orientation is controlled.

  • Publication number: 20130043537
Abstract: There is provided a semiconductor device and a method for manufacturing a semiconductor device. Within the N-type semiconductor layer formed from a high resistance N-type substrate, the P-type well diffusion layer and P-type extraction layer are formed and are fixed to ground potential. Due thereto, a depletion layer spreading on the P-type well diffusion layer side does not reach the interlayer boundary between the P-type well diffusion layer and the buried oxide film. Hence, the potential around the surface of the P-type well diffusion layer is kept at a ground potential. Accordingly, when the voltages are applied to the backside of the N-type semiconductor layer and a cathode electrode, a channel region at the MOS-type semiconductor formed as a P-type semiconductor layer is not activated. Due thereto, leakage current that may occur independently of a control due to the gate electrode of a transistor can be suppressed.

  • Publication number: 20120330493
Abstract: A method, featuring robustness against changes in tire size, is provided for determining a road surface condition by dividing a time-series waveform of tire vibrations into windows without resorting to detection of the peak positions or measurement of the wheel speed. A time-series waveform of tire vibrations detected by a tire vibration detecting unit is windowed by a windowing unit. Time-series waveforms are extracted from the respective time windows, feature vectors X are calculated therefor, and then likelihoods Z for road-surface HMMs (hidden Markov models) are calculated. The likelihoods Z1 to Z5 calculated for the respective road-surface HMMs are compared with one another, and a road surface condition corresponding to the road-surface HMM showing the highest likelihood is determined to be the condition of the road surface on which the tire is running.
