Abstract: A visible light communication (VLC) device for lighting and data transmission includes a dimming block and a light emitting device. The dimming block is configured to receive a desired brightness level, determine a data duty cycle for the data transmission based on the desired brightness level, determine a filler luminance value based on the desired brightness level, and generate dimming information for use by a second VLC device for decoding the data. The light emitting device is configured to convert the data, the filler luminance value, and the dimming information to visible light for transmission to the second VLC device.

Abstract: A protocol engine (PE) for processing data within a protocol stack in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is disclosed. The protocol stack executes decision and control operations. The data processing and re-formatting which was performed in a conventional protocol stack is removed from the protocol stack and performed by the PE. The protocol stack issues a control word for processing data and the PE processes the data based on the control word. Preferably, the WTRU includes a shared memory and a second memory. The shared memory is used as a data block place holder to transfer the data amongst processing entities. For transmit processing, the PE retrieves source data from the second memory and processes the data while moving the data to the shared memory based on the control word. For receive processing, the PE retrieves received data from the shared memory and processes it while moving the data to the second memory.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system having smart antennas and comprising a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs), a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving data comprises a first WTRU transmitting a request for antenna (RFA) frame to a second WTRU. The second WTRU receives the RFA frame and determines a preferred antenna to receive a dataframe transmission. The first WTRU transmits the dataframe on the preferred antenna.

Abstract: A subscriber unit, used for communicating in voiced communications at a first data rate and communicating at a second data rate for other data, suppresses a selected communication during communication rate modification. A determination is made as to whether the transmission requires a change in data rate, and a switching circuit responds by engaging a different communication channel. Blocking circuitry blocks transmissions until the different data rate is established. This provides an optimum data rate, while preserving the integrity of the data transmitted.
Abstract: A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) is configured to receive unciphered and ciphered messages. The unciphered messages include identity requests, authentication requests, non-access stratum (NAS) security mode commands and tracking area update responses. The ciphered messages may come from the NAS and a Radio Resource Controller (RRC). The messages are ciphered using security keys.

Abstract: A system and a method of controlling transmitter power in a wireless communication system in which user data is processed as a multirate signal in which the user data signal having a first rate is converted into a transmission data signal having a faster second rate for transmission. The transmission power is adjusted on a relatively slow basis based on quality of data received by a receiver of the transmitted data. The transmitter power is determined as a function of the first and second rates such that a change in the data rate in the multiple channels or the rate of the transmission data signal is compensated in advance of a quality of data based adjustment associated with such data rate change.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for confirming the delivery of a data packet in a mesh network by sending an acknowledgement (ACK) to an ingress mesh point (IMP). A mesh network comprises a plurality of mesh points that are wirelessly linked together. A data packet sent by a station (STA) is received by an IMP. A MAC frame is generated for transmission of the data packet and the frame is forwarded to an egress mesh point (EMP) in order to provide a service by the mesh network. The MAC frame includes a field comprising an IMP address and an EMP address. When the EMP, (or optionally an intermediate mesh point), receives a data packet successfully, the EMP or the intermediate mesh point sends an ACK to the IMP or preceding mesh point.

Abstract: Methods and base stations are described. A base station includes a receiver, a processor and a transmitter. The receiver receives a first data block associated with an uplink temporary block flow (TBF), and the first data block includes a first header that includes a temporary flow identity (TFI) that identifies the uplink TBF. The processor generate a piggybacked acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (PAN) field corresponding to the uplink TBF and a PAN check sequence (PCS) based on the PAN field, masks a subset of PCS bits with the TFI to generate a masked PCS, and generates a second data block, associated with a downlink TBF, that includes a second header, a data part corresponding to the downlink TBF, the PAN field, and the masked PCS. The transmitter transmits the second data block.

Abstract: A method and system for the UE and RNC to reduce transmission latency and potentially prevent loss of PDUs upon a MAC layer reset. UE generation of the status PDU is coupled with the MAC layer reset. The RNC generates a message with a MAC reset indication. Following the MAC layer reset all PDUs stored in the UE MAC layer reordering buffers are flushed to RLC entities and then processed by RLC entities prior to the generation of a PDU status report. The PDU status report provides to the RNC the status of all successfully received PDUs. Upon reception of a PDU status report in the RNC, missing PDUs are realized and retransmitted to the UE.
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) includes circuitry configured to receive control information on a downlink control channel from a base station. The control information indicates an allocation of an uplink channel and the control information is sent in response to the base station determining that the UE is to send an adaptive modulation and coding report. The circuitry is further configured in response to the control information to transmit a communication in the allocated uplink channel in a time interval including at least one time slot. The communication includes an adaptive modulation and coding report, and a transmission power level of the communication is derived from the control information and a pathloss measured by the UE.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system including at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and at least one Node-B (NB), an activation or deactivation state is determined for each of a plurality of HARQ processes. A signal that includes the activation or deactivation state for each of the HARQ processes is transmitted to the WTRU. Abstract: A method and apparatus for adaptively biasing a channel quality indicator (CQI) used for setting a configuration of communication between a transmitter and a receiver in a wireless communication system. The receiver sends a CQI and positive acknowledgement (ACK)/negative acknowledgement (NACK) messages to the transmitter. The ACK/NACK messages indicate the absence or presence of error, respectively, in a transmitted data packet. The CQI is derived from the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) and the ACK/NACK messages. The transmitter calculates the block error rate (BLER) of the transmitted data packets based upon the ACK/NACK messages sent from the receiver. The transmitter compares the BLER of the transmitted data packets to a target BLER and biases the CQI based on the comparison in order to achieve the target BLER.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for indicating a temporary block flow (TBF) to which a piggybacked acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (PAN) field is addressed. A PAN check sequence (PCS) is created, for example using a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) encoding. The PCS is masked with a temporary flow identity (TFI) assigned to a TBF or a mask generated based on the TFI. A data block including the PAN field and the masked PCS is then processed for transmission. The mask may be generated by converting the TFI using an (M, N) code, M being not greater than the number of bits of the PCS and N being the number of bits of the TFI. With this scheme, a TFI may be transmitted in a PAN field without using explicit bits to identify the TBF.
