  • Patent number: 6012553
Abstract: A mount for the safety device in a lift cage comprises an assembly for maintaining a catch system in a readiness position and for the movement thereof in at least one plane during the braking process. A catch housing is supported horizontally fixed in the readiness position and is held in the readiness position by a resilient plate lightly braced against the catch housing. When the safety device is triggered into a braking process the catch housing is urged upwardly against the resilient plate, out of the readiness position wherein the horizontal fixing is cancelled and self-centering of the catch housing in relation to the guide rails can occur. The transmission of braking/catching forces to the cage is damped and progressively sprung through the compression of the resilient plate.

  • Patent number: 6006867
Abstract: A guide apparatus for guiding and arresting an elevator running on column-like guides automatically prevents a transmission of guide alignment errors to the car and an unintended engagement of the arresting device. A roller carrier for engaging the guide running surfaces is rotationally movably mounted on the car with a center of rotation at the longitudinal axis of the guide so that the roller carrier can follow a twist of the guide about its axis. The roller carrier also mounts an arresting device which is vertically displaceable in a mounting bracket by contact with a buffer on an abutment attached to the elevator car. In the case of an arresting braking of the car, no force is transmitted to the guide apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5969303
Abstract: An emergency stop circuit for an elevator drive includes an emergency stop control (7) that selectively varies the current flowing in a field winding (4) of a direct current drive motor (M). During an emergency stop, the motor (M) operates as a generator and has an armature winding (1) loaded with a braking resistor (9) to apply a voltage, depending on the direction of movement of the elevator car, either by a first switch (10) and a second switch (11), or by a third switch (12) and a fourth switch (13). The switches (10, 11, 12, 13) are connected as an H-bridge between the windings (1, 4) and are controlled by the emergency stop control (7) depending on the deceleration required by the elevator car, for example by pulse operation depending based upon a preset deceleration value and a measured deceleration value from a deceleration sensor (14) mounted on the car.

  • Patent number: 5957242
Abstract: A machine frame with two side members at its ends comprises support arms, which are pivotably mounted in semi-circular cut-out bearing supports. The bearing supports may be arranged on differently high pedestals, which may result in different inclined positions for the machine frame with respect to a machine room floor. The inclined position may provide for a variable looping angle .beta. at the drive pulley and variable cable spacing between the cage cables and the counterweight cables. Furthermore, the deflecting roller may be mounted in laterally displaceable bearing plates. The deflecting roller may be inserted above or below a pair of side members. The position of the deflecting roller with respect to the side members may also have an effect on the looping angle .beta. and the cable spacing. The combination of these adjustment possibilities enables the substantially universally adaptability of the machine frame to different elevator systems and applications.

  • Patent number: 5950768
Abstract: Safety equipment, in the form of an arresting device with triggering equipment for an elevator cage, which runs in rail guides and is for the conveying of persons and/or goods, which safety equipment stops the elevator cage when the permissible speed of travel in upward direction and in downward direction is exceeded, wherein a trigger lever connected the limiter cable is effective in both directions of travel. Known arresting devices are arranged functionally mutually opposite on support brackets and a double arresting device for both directions of travel is formed in this manner. The triggering of the corresponding arresting device separately in direction of travel takes place by way of some new parts which are incorporated between the arresting devices and the known triggering system consisting of speed limiter, limiter cable with tensioning weight and trigger lever.

  • Patent number: 5932853
Abstract: An identification system for a lift installation in which a lift user carries with him an information transmitter. The information transmitter communicates individual data, for example the weight of the lift user, to a recognition device, which files the data in a data bank. Lift users without information transmitters, so-called unauthorized travellers, are detected with the aid of a load-measuring device. A comparator compares the weight in a lift cage with the weight identified by means of the information transmitter to verify the identity of the lift user as the user to whom the information transmitter was assigned. In the case of agreement, a release signal issued to a lift control, which dispatches or otherwise permits operation of the lift cage.

  • Patent number: 5923005
Abstract: Equipment for monitoring an approach area of a moving belt apparatus (1), such as an escalator or a travelling walkway, and for controlling a drive for the belt includes light sensors (12) arranged in handrail entry caps (11) of balustrades (3). Each light sensor (12) has an emitter (15) and a receiver (16) and operates with, for example, infrared beams. The light sensors (12) monitor the access to the moving belt apparatus (1) in a specific region (13) in front of an entry to the belt (2), for example, the region of the threshold plate (14). On stepping into the monitoring region (13) of the light sensor (12), the beams emitted by the emitter (15) are reflected by the person and sensed by the associated receiver (16) to switch on the drive.

  • Patent number: 5900596
Abstract: This invention includes a brake system for a hydraulic ram or another cylinder, that can be employed as an emergency brake for a lifting elevator. When actuated, the brake arms contact the ram circumferentially to slow and stop the falling ram. The brake arms are preferably lined with an able material that frictionally engages the ram to stop the downward motion of the ram. The brake system may be actuated by loss of hydraulic pressure, by an electronic signal from a hydraulic pressure detector, by down overspeed sensor or by an uncontrolled down motion detector. According to another aspect of the present invention, a controller, which is preferably a programmed control system, compares the actual motion of the elevator as sensed by a detector to a desired motion. Under certain conditions, if the actual motion differs from the desired motion, the controller actuates the brake.
