Abstract: A rotor of an electric machine includes a rotor core with one or more permanent magnets having opposing ends. The rotor core defining a magnet channel extending axially between opposing ends of the rotor core. The permanent magnet is disposed in the channel and extends axially through the rotor core. The magnet includes a planar layer of magnetically hard-phase material that includes rare-earth metal and includes a planar layer of magnetically soft-phase material that does not include rare-earth metal. Both of the hard and soft layers extend between the opposing ends. The soft-phase material has a major face disposed against a major face of the hard phase material.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure support a head-mounted display (HMD) wirelessly coupled to a console. The HMD includes a positional tracking system, a beam controller and a transceiver. The positional tracking system tracks position of the HMD and generates positional information describing the tracked position of the HMD. The transceiver communicates with a console via a wireless channel, in accordance with communication instructions, the communication instructions causing the transceiver to communicate over one directional beam of a plurality of directional beams. The beam controller determines a change in the positional information. Based on the change to the positional information, the beam controller determines a directional beam of the plurality of directional beams. The beam controller further generates the communication instructions identifying the determined directional beam, and provides the communication instructions to the transceiver.

Abstract: A method for the direct fluorination of plastics and articles made from plastics is presented. The novel method includes ensuring extremely low oxygen and moisture content in the chamber before the primary fluorination step, ramping the fluorine concentration during the fluorination step, and providing a quenching step for improved shelf-life. Containers processed by the novel method demonstrate a marked improvement in barrier properties for organic solutions.
Abstract: Apparatuses and techniques are described for providing separate source regions in the substrate below a block of memory cells. The source regions can be separately driven by respective voltage drivers to provide benefits such as more uniform program and erase speeds and narrower threshold voltage distributions. In one approach, a single source region is provided and divided into multiple source regions by etching trenches and filling the trenches with an insulating material. Contacts to the source regions can include post-shaped contacts which extend through the block for each source region. In another approach, one or more planar contacts extend through the block for each source region. In another aspect, a program operation applies different voltages to the respective source regions during a verify test of a program operation.
Abstract: A system includes a processor configured to determine that a vehicle is in a predefined power-preservation state. The processor is also configured to determine a lowest transmit-power available cellular band for vehicle telematics services, responsive to the power-preservation state. The processor is further configured to disable all bands other than the lowest-power available band and use the lowest-power available band for vehicle communication as long as the power-preservation state persists.
Abstract: A munition includes a warhead having a warhead axis and axially opposed first and second warhead ends. The warhead includes: a tubular shock attenuation barrier including an axially extending passage extending from a first barrier end proximate the first warhead end to a second barrier end proximate the second warhead end; an explosive core charge disposed in the passage; an explosive main charge surrounding the shock attenuation barrier; projectiles surrounding the main charge; a core charge detonator; and a main charge detonator. The warhead is configured to be activated in each of a first projection mode and an alternative second projection mode. When the warhead is activated in the first projection mode, the main charge detonator detonates the main charge to thereby forcibly project the projectiles from the warhead with a first set of projection velocities and velocity profile.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for protecting an exhaust catalyst from degradation during a DFSO event. Exit from DFSO due to pedal input received from an operator with a jittery foot is averted by filtering the pedal input differently when operating in a DFSO mode as compared to when operating out of the DFSO mode. Exit from DFSO is confirmed after receiving a higher than threshold pedal position input for a sustained period of time, or when an integrated fuel injection amount exceeds a threshold amount.

Abstract: Systems, methods and/or devices are used to perform memory-efficient mapping of block/object addresses. In one aspect, a method of managing a storage system having one or more storage devices includes a tiered data structure in which each node has a logical ID and entries in the nodes reference other nodes in the tiered data structure using the logical IDs. As a result, when a child node is updated and stored to a new location, but retains its logical ID, its parent node does not need to be updated, because the logical ID in the entry referencing the child node remains unchanged. Further, the storage system uses a secondary mapping table to translate the logical IDs to the corresponding physical locations of the corresponding nodes. Additionally, the secondary mapping table is cached in volatile memory, and as a result, the physical location of a required node is determined without accessing non-volatile memory.
