  • Patent number: 11306631
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for assessing a state of a vent hose that fluidically couples a crankcase of an engine to an engine air intake system. In one example, a method may include sealing the crankcase from the vent hose, initiating cranking of the engine, monitoring a series of pressure pulsations during a monitoring window duration via a pressure sensor positioned between a crankcase oil separator and the vent hose, and indicating a presence of degradation associated with the vent hose based on the series of pressure pulsations and the monitoring window duration. In this way, diagnosis of a state of the vent hose may be reliably assessed without crankcase pressures confounding pressure measurements as recorded via the pressure sensor.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an automotive computer in communication with a mobile device using an authentication manager to increase and/or reduce user privileges that determine a level of vehicle control or feature access that is granted to the user. The authentication manager may increase or decrease the user privilege to standard rider status until the authentication manager has confirmed elevated status for that user via a cloud security challenge question or via a local identification method such as using the mobile device authentication features. This process may be additionally triggered based on environmental or context-based use cases, such as a high traffic condition, local cyber-attack, or transportation of sensitive goods. • Publication number: 20220112436
Abstract: A method and system for continuous production of contaminant free and size specific biochar using downdraft gasification of variable quality feedstock. The system and process of the present invention includes the transfer of biochar from a gasifier after gasification to a temperature-controlled cooling screw conveyor, into a drum magnet for ferrous metal removal into multiple diverters to separate and remove ungasified materials and non-ferrous metal contaminants, then transferred into a granulator for grinding and screening the biochar to a pre-selected size. By directly attaching a novel and continuous product treatment process to the biochar stream as it exits the gasifier, the particle size, moisture content, carbon content and yield of a contaminant free biochar product can be narrowly controlled and improved to meet strict product quality specifications required by specialty applications.

  • Publication number: 20220112788
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an actuator and related method of use that can change and control positions of chokes, valves, and other rotational equipment in response to changes in either pressure, torque, or a combination thereof. The actuator with associated integrated components including a servo motor, motor controller, torque sensor assembly, encoder, holding brake, and onboard controls can be encased in a sealed explosion proof rated enclosure for deployment on a drilling rig or other explosive environments with a small footprint suitable for space limited locations. Pressure applied over a known area, such as a choke plug, is converted to torque and can be repeated regardless of flow rate, temperature, fluid type, or density. The torque sensing ability advantageously can quickly respond to fluid changes and make large steps to different set points with accuracy. The onboard controls can control the actuator autonomously without constant communication with a remote controller.
