  • Patent number: 5128892
Abstract: A parallel adder has a carry between adjacent adding stages. Each of the adding stages includes a carry-generating circuit which generates a carry output signal from carry input signals to be added by the adding stage and a carry input signal applied to it. The carry-generating circuit includes a complementary stage which is built with complementary transistors connected between the two terminals of a supply-voltage source. The carry-generating circuit has a center node which is connected to the carry output terminal and which, if the data input signals applied to the adding stage have the same binary state value, is at a potential corresponding to the binary state value. The carry-generating cricuit further includes a coupling circuit. One end of the coupling circuit is connected to one terminal of the supply-voltage source, and the other end of the coupling circuit is at the potential of the one terminal if the data input signals have unequal binary state values.

  • Patent number: 5128682
Abstract: A transmit/receive system for electromagnetic radiation, particularly radar, employs an array of active transmit/receive (T/R) modules. Only a portion of the modules are actuated to transmit or receive signals at any given time. Input transmit power is supplied to all modules, but only the selected portion of modules actually amplify their inputs. The power loss is thus kept small because the amplified signal power far outweighs the lost input power. This approach makes possible a monopulse signal routing scheme that minimizes the number of switches used and their accompanying reliability problems. Transmit and receive signals are routed through sum-and-difference circuits and respective sectors of the T/R modules such that during RECEIVE no switches are necessary to acquire a monopulse sum (.SIGMA.) signal, and only a single switch is required to acquire a monopulse difference (.DELTA.) signal. Similarly, no switching of module inputs is required during TRANSMIT.

  • Patent number: 5127051
Abstract: An improved modem system for HF data transmission over a varying communication channel transmits data in packets formatted into successive frames, each having two identical training sequences following a sequence of data. Each training sequence has a time length longer than the expected time length of the multipath dispersion in the communication channel, in order to isolate one training sequence in each frame from multipath interference from the preceding data sequence. The "clean" training sequence allows the receiving modem system to derive very accurate channel estimates for each frame by autocorrelation to the known symbol sequence stored at the receiver. By interpolating across the channel estimates for the current and previous frames, the modem system can track the communication channel by interpolated estimates for any part or any point in time of the data sequence.

  • Patent number: 5127080
Abstract: A fiber optic phosphor screen is made of an optical fiber bundle having individual fibers arranged in parallel with opposite ends thereof extending between internal and external surfaces of the screen. The ends of the individual fibers at the internal surface of the screen have phosphor islands bonded only to the core portions in order to provide a pseudo-intagliated phosphor layer. A reflective layer is coated over the phosphor islands in between on the cladding portions of the fibers. A method for producing the fiber optic phosphor screen includes the steps of applying a phosphor-photoresist layer to the ends of the fibers at the internal surface of the screen, illuminating the opposite ends of the fibers such that only the portions of the phosphor-photoresist layer on the core portions of the fibers are developed and bonded thereto, and removing the undeveloped portions of the phosphor-photoresist layer to leave behind phosphor islands bonded to the core portions.

  • Patent number: 5126931
Abstract: A single ended forward DC-to-DC converter is operated with a main switch in series circuit with a primary winding of the isolation transformer and an auxiliary switch for charging a reset capacitor also in circuit with said primary winding. The main switch and auxiliary switch are operated through control logic so that neither switch is ON at the same time. A predetermined dead time is provided between turning OFF the auxiliary switch and turning ON the main switch to allow the output capacitance of the main switch to discharge into the secondary of the transformer. Current discharge into the secondary of the transformer during this time period is limited either by a saturable reactor in series circuit with the secondary or a selectively controlled rectifier.

  • Patent number: 5125064
Abstract: A fiber optic elment is used to correct or reverse a field curvature distortion in an optical system having two imaging elements. The fiber optic element has fibers arranged in parallel with their first ends along a curvature corresponding to the expected field curvature of the image from the first imaging element, and second ends along another curvature for producing a correct output image. In the two-element optical system, the fiber optic array has its second ends arranged to provide an input object to the second imaging element with a reversed field curvature such that a correct output image is obtained from the second imaging element.

  • Patent number: 5115679
Abstract: A level measuring system for measuring the level of a fluid in a tank employing tubes through which gas is passed extending to different levels in the fluid, whereby the level may be measured by comparing the differences in pressure necessary to release bubbles from the tubes. The ends of each of the tubes are bent at substantially a right angle, with the tips cut off at an angle so that the gas/liquid interface of the bubbles are at a more constant depth, and the bubbles are prevented from sagging.

  • Patent number: 5114373
Abstract: A method for optimizing the photo-response of a photocathode having a gallium-arsenide layer and a cesium-oxide surface coating includes the steps of overcesiating the photocathode, sealing it in a vacuum tube and baking the assembly in an oven. The photo-response of the photocathode is measured while it is baked, such measurements comprising an input to a microprocessor which controls the baking process by varying the temperature and/or time of baking. The rate of increase of photo-response due to heating and optimizing the photo-response attributable to the cesium-oxide coating is determined by utilizing a formula which relates temperature and photo-response and permits room temperature photo-response to be projected from a measurement taken during the baking process. When the rate of increase shows a characteristic diminishing pattern, the photo-response has been maximized and the baking is terminated.

  • Patent number: 5112018
Abstract: A power seat track apparatus for selectively positioning an automotive vehicle seat is adapted to be powered by an electric motor drive, preferably with separate motors for each drive direction. The seat back is mounted on the upper track of the seat track mechanism for horizontal drive with the track. The vertical drive through front and rear torsion tubes or bars act on only the seat pan and seat cushion but not on the seat back. Since the vehicle shock loading requirements must be met by the structural seat pan or seat frame, the pan for holding only the seat cushion may be reduced in size as compared to the usual power seat frame. The front of the seat cushion is interconnected with the pan through a lost motion pivot and the rear portion of the seat cushion is interconnected with the seat pan through a fixed pivot connection whereby simultaneous elevation and shortening of the seat cushion with respect to the seat back is effected.
