    Abstract: A paperboard container and method of forming such container having a rolled brim is disclosed. The container being formed of a paperboard material having a caliper of at least approximately 0.007 inches, a rolled brim arc length of less than about 0.25 inches, an outer radius of curvature of the container cut through the plane normal to the axis of the rolled brim arc length adjacent the rolled brim being less than approximately 1.5 inches with the paperboard material forming the container having at least approximately 8 lbs/3,000 ft.sup.2 ream of size press adhesive included therein and preferably approximately 13 lbs/3,000 ft.sup.2 ream of paperboard material. One particular container includes dimensions wherein the outer radius of curvature of the container cut through the plane normal to the axis of the rolled brim arc length adjacent the rolled brim is approximately 1.

    Abstract: Containers and a method for forming such containers having larger brims with reduced brim curl defects is disclosed including providing a plurality of container blanks for forming containers, forming a plurality of container shells from the plurality of blanks, accumulating the plurality of container shells at an accumulation station, subjecting at least an upper periphery of the shells to a humid atmosphere to precondition the shells with the atmosphere preferably including steam, successively removing the shells from the accumulator and subsequently forming a brim curl about an upper periphery of the shell with the shells being subject to the humid atmosphere for a predetermined time period sufficient to form defect-free brim curls by extending the forming strain limits of the paperboard material. This method being carried out by using an accumulator for accumulating the container shells for further processing.

    Abstract: An embossing apparatus and method which provides a better embossed appearance and eliminates undesired roughness on the backside of the web material. Two plies are multilevel embossed between rigid engraved rolls and backup rolls, which may be either engraved or smooth. One rigid roll has embossing elements of varying heights and perforation elements, which run in a side-by-side relationship with the corresponding perforation elements on the opposing rigid roll in a nip region of the apparatus. The multiple plies are perforation bonded between the perforation elements, which are preferably the two highest elements, thus reinforcing the other multi-level embossed pattern formed in between the perforation bonds. The embossed patterns impart a quilt-like contoured appearance to the finished product.

    Abstract: A roll of paper toweling is dispensed from the opening of a dispenser due to a manual pulling force applied to the toweling. The toweling is separated into a plurality of toweling segments by a plurality of spaced tear lines, the tear lines being straight, parallel to each other, and extending orthogonally relative to the side edges of the paper toweling. The perforated tear lines are formed of a plurality of spaced, elongated, axially aligned slits separated by frangible toweling portions extending between the slits. The frangible toweling portions are narrower near the side edges of the toweling than in the middle thereof and the distances between the centers of the toweling portions are substantially the same along the length of the perforated tear line.

    Abstract: A one-ply paper tissue product and a method of making a one-ply paper product combining high strength and softness along with low sidedness. The paper tissue product exhibits a sidedness parameter of less than 0.3 preferably, less than 0.225, a tensile modulus of no more than 32 grams/percent strain, a GM MMD of no more than about 0.225, and a cross directional strength of at least 200 grams per 3 inches. In stratification tissues, these properties are obtained by control of stratification, particularly, chemical stratification and stratification of furnish when appropriate. The tissue has a sidedness parameter value of less than 0.3, preferably, about 0.15 to about less than 0.225. In homogenous tissue, these properties are obtained by adding a strength enhancing agent to separate furnish sources prior to the funish sources being combined, and further, optionally adding the softener to the nascent web.

The undulatory creping blade has a multiplicity of alternating serrulated sections of either uniform depth or a multiplicity of arrays of serrulations having non-uniform depth.

    Abstract: A single paperboard blank for forming a carton having a tear open spout for dispensing material contained therein. The blank includes a first main panel with first and second side panels and end flaps hingedly connected thereto by way of fold lines. In addition, a second main panel is hingedly connected to the second side panel and includes a third side panel and end flaps hingedly connected thereto by way of fold lines. A closure flap is formed in the third side panel and a spout panel is hingedly connected to the third side panel. The formed carton has a plurality of side walls hingedly connected to one another by fold lines, a top wall and a bottom wall, with one of the side walls including an outer panel and an inner panel adhesively secured thereto with closure flap formed in the inner panel. A tear protective flap is formed in the outer panel for sealing the carton until the initial use.

    Abstract: A creping system includes a Yankee dryer rotatable about its axis, a blade support mechanism which includes (a) a pair of guide rails, (b) a fixed attitude linear bearing engaging and translatable along each of the guide rails, each fixed attitude linear bearing being mounted on a block and (c) a combination linear-rotary bearing being carried by each block, the axis of each combination linear-rotary bearing being parallel to the generators of the surface of the Yankee dryer and collinear with the axis of the other combination linear-rotary bearing. A stub shaft engages each combination linear-rotary bearing, each stub shaft being translatable along, and rotatable about, the axis of its respective combination linear-rotary bearing. A blade holder is mounted between the stub shafts, and a blade mounted on the blade holder for engagement with the surface of the Yankee dryer.
