  • Patent number: 5099654
Abstract: A method for controlling a motor vehicle air conditioning system is described. The motor vehicle air conditioning system comprises a refrigeration circuit including a refrigerant compressor, a condenser, an evaporator and a throttle device arranged upstream of the evaporator. The condenser is associated with a ventilating fan and the evaporator is associated with a blower. The compressor capacity, the condenser capacity and the evaporator capacity are directly or indirectly sensed by sensor means and supplied as electrical variables to an electronic control circuit which logically combines these input signals and generates output signals in dependence on at least two of these capacity values and including further parameters. The control circuit acts on electrically controllable acturators for influencing the compressor capacity, the condenser capacity and/or the evaporator capacity.

  • Patent number: 5007180
Abstract: In the case of a method of separating condensable harmful substances and solid particles from the process gas or used air from particularly a textile finishing plant such as for example a drier or a coating plant, for example in the paper or synthetic plastics industry, the used air is pre-filtered, cooled and passed through a mechanical final filtering apparatus. So that a considerable extent of separation from the used air is possible already at the pre-filtering stage, the warm used air is pre-filtered by being cooled to below the dewpoint of the condensable harmful substances and dispersed solid particles. The resultant condensate which contains impurities is extracted.

  • Patent number: 5002019
Abstract: A radiator arrangement is disclosed which avoids problems of known radiator arrangements where it is customary to manufacturer a radiator and fan unit and to subsequently connect an electric control device with the heat exchanger and the fan drive and to equip the unit with temperature sensors during assembly on a vehicle. It is disclosed to fasten the control device and the temperature sensor directly to the structural unit formed by the heat exchanger and the fan arrangement. As a result of this construction, the whole radiator arrangement can still be adjusted in the manufacturing plant prior to movement of same to a location where the radiator/fan unit is assembled on a further vehicle part.

  • Patent number: 4974713
Abstract: Normally, fluid friction clutch having cup disks, in order to permit the circulating of clutch fluid in the relatively small cylindrical ring gap between the housing and the cup disk, must be provided with thread-type conveying grooves. According to the invention, these expenditures are avoided in that the cup disk, on its closed side, is provided with a surrounding edge which projects beyond the cylindrical circumferential surface radially toward the outside and which is flush with the front face of the cup disk. Radial grooves preferably lead into this edge and are provided at the front face. The cup disk preferably be combined with axially extending notches in the cylindrical ring surface of the housing and with conical openings by means of which an intense circulation of the coupling fluid is ensured. The clutch is to be used for the drive of fans for vehicle engines.

  • Patent number: 4962836
Abstract: A fluid friction clutch is disclosed for vehicle cooling fans and the like, which clutch is controlled by a bimetallic element controlling a clutch fluid valve opening.Since the bimetallic element must have degrees of freedom, the fastening of the bimetallic elements at the cover of fluid friction clutch results in difficulties, particularly if the clutch is subjected to high stress. In order to avoid that the bimetallic element can move away from its position in the case of high stress, it is suggested to provide a bimetallic element which is clamped in only at one side and the free end of which has the required freedom of motion, but which can be fastened securely in its position. The new clutch is used for cooling fans of motor vehicle engines which are to be switched as a function of the temperature.

  • Patent number: 4958428
Abstract: A process and an arrangement for producing a supporting body for a catalytic reactor is disclosed. In order to reduce thermal stress between the casing tube and the wound metal supporting body of an exhaust gas catalyst, the temperatures of which vary significantly during operation, it has been proposed to provide the ring-type composite of metal strips fastened in a casing tube with slots extending in longitudinal direction. This type of production results in high expenditures. The new process and arrangement of the invention provides that incisions are made directly into the metal strips before the winding or folding of the supporting body, so that a subsequent processing becomes superfluous. The thus produced supporting bodies have a plurality of incisions extending within the ring-type composite which can also prevent the buildup of thermal tensions or stress. The new supporting bodies are used for exhaust gas catalysts of motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4940121
Abstract: Fluid friction clutches tend to operate discontinuously when the performance requirement is low and therefore the filling ratio in the working chamber is also low. This so-called "surging" is to be avoided. According to the invention, a forced guiding is provided for the clutch fluid from a front part of the working chamber into the rear part of the working chamber, and only then is the return flow provided to the storage chamber which is achieved by a sealing-off of the working chamber into these two areas by means of the clutch disk and by means of the arrangement of a fluid deflector with damming bodies at a part of the circumference. The resulting forced distribution of clutch fluid on both sides of the clutch disk permits a smooth operation of the clutch and, when pumping elements are arranged, also a reduction of the hysteresis. Fluid friction clutches of this type are particularly suitable for fan drives for cooling devices of motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4897712
Abstract: A heat sink, particularly for the cooling of electronic structural elements, has a base body, on which the structural elements and a cooling element that carries off the heat are arranged next to one another. An enlargement of the heat transmission surfaces relative to the overall size of the cooling element, and a resulting higher cooling performance are achieved by means of the fact that the cooling element is developed as a bundle of ribs consisting of a plurality of sheets. The sheets are arranged essentially in parallel and at a distance to one another that is determined by the plate thickness and density of the bundle of ribs. The sheets are connected with one another at one of their longitudinal sides and the bundle of ribs forming the cooling element are connected with the base body in a material locking way via a solder connection or the like. This development of the heat sink permits an individualized design of the cooling element for the optimal removal of the heat generated by the components.

  • Patent number: 4881595
Abstract: In a clamping connection between a plastic water tank equipped with at least one flange and a heat-exchanger tube sheet carrying a deformable edge region, an elastic sealing device being retained therebetween under prestress, and the deformable edge region, before its deformation, extends parallel to the outer contour of the flange and, after its deformation to make the clamping connection, it has first partial regions deformed in an approximately wave-shaped manner over the flange of the plastic water tank, and non-deformed further partial regions extending parallel to the outer contour of the flange. The first partial regions deformed over the flange of the plastic water tank make a positive connection, in which the lower edges of the deformed first partial regions rest on the top side of the flange under prestress. To make deformation easier, the deformable first partial regions are cut free parallel to and at a distance from an outer edge at the height of the flange top edge.

  • Patent number: 4852363
Abstract: In an air conditioner for a motor vehicle, which, for the purpose of contling the humidity, has in the ir duct suitable devices, controlled by a microcomputer. The microcomputer receives values for outside temperature, inside temperature and inside humidity, measured by sensors. From the values for outside temperature, inside temperature and inside humidity, the microcomputer determines the threshold humidity (l.sub.thresh) as the ratio of the saturated vapor pressure (P.sub.S) inside at the pane and the saturated vapor pressure (P.sub.i) of the inside air. If this difference (.DELTA.l) between threshold humidity (l.sub.thresh) and inside humidity (l.sub.i) falls below a stipulated value (x), dehumidification devices are actuated. If the stipulated value is exceeded, humidification devices are actuated.

  • Patent number: 4775006
Abstract: A heat exchanger, particularly a coolant evaporator, is provided that has several flat pipes that are arranged parallel to one another and are each expanded at their ends with respect to a central part and are closed off by caps. The expanded ends are provided with connecting openings so that the heat exchange medium can flow to the adjacent pipe. At least one of the caps that are provided for closing off the pipe ends is equipped with a projection extending towards the inside of the pipe and closes off at least one of the connecting openings, so that the production of a heat exchanger of identically constructed flat pipes is simplified, in that by the insertion of correponding caps that either expose the connecting openings to the adjacent pipes or not, it is easy to control the flow of the heat exchange medium inside the flat pipes.
